I Need Books!
'Just a TAD too much, Nick?'
Ok, ok, maybe more than a tad. My passion for reading started way back in my younger days as a kid. I think I've posted about that sometime before so I'm not really going to elaborate on that again. There's something about reading that to me is so much better than watching a movie, well unless of course it is a Transformers movie, that one you just have to watch to enjoy :)
One thing I noticed these days is that kids don't really read anymore and I'm sad to say that is also true with my kids. I don't really see them reading anything at all besides their school books (which they have no choice in the matter) and the Astro TV guide to check on programme times! The love for reading is no longer apparent in the younger generation (well, in this country anyway) and that is really a very frightening thought.
I guess my reading habit was influence by my grandfather. I can still remember him sitting in his little reading room, which was actually sort of store room that he converted as his little reading haven. Many a night he would be up until the wee hours of the morning totally engrossed in whatever book he was reading. I used to like sneak into his room and mess with is books and he'd get so annoyed with me. Little by little, over time, I started to actually read some of those books. Of course it didn't make much sense to me back then cos I was still on my staple of comics and Enid Blyton books.
My grandfather had a huge and I really mean huge collection of books and novels back then. I don't what happened to do them now. I wish I had the sense of mind to actually take some of them for my collection. Who knows, some of them could be worth a lot now, right? Not that I would ever sell a book mind you. I collect books and I would never sell them no matter how much they cost. Even comics for that matter and I have quite a pile of them to begin with. I even have this Daredevil comic book that I know for a fact is worth some good money but I ain't selling it no matter what. Well, maybe for a million or two, I'd consider ... LOL!
I have a very small collection of books in my ... urrrrmmm ... mini library which is really a chair next to a bookshelf in my room ... hehehe ... Quite a bit of them are actually books I've rented and never returned. Like I mentioned in my other blog, Spiff, I paid for them anyway and they're a lot cheaper than getting new ones, some of which cost 3 times the price of these rented ones. They may not be the best of quality cos they're dogged eared and all but they're okay by me. I think I've read the collection I have close to a minimum of 10 times already and I never get bored reading them over and over again. Wifey always asks me how come I never get bored of reading them when I already know how the book is going to turn out. I just don't have a good answer for her :D
I love immersing myself deeply into a book. I tend to put myself in the place of the lead character at times and imagine every single aspect of what the author is trying to convey like the greenness of the trees, the heat of a blazing desert or in the case of my Star Trek novels, the silence of space. Reading leaves a lot to the imagination and I have a very vivid imagination, that's for sure. A book is like a TV in the mind. And you make up the pictures yourself. All this talk about reading is making me feel like picking up a good book, curl up in bed with some peanuts and a warm mug of coffee and reading the night away. That is if I can find a good book at home that I haven't already read and if the pull of my blog is not too strong ... LOL! Then again, maybe not cos it's American Idol night, there goes my reading stint for tonight ... hehehe ...
Me, A Mentor?

But I was thrilled nonetheless and I sincerely thank you Loz for thinking of me when it came to handing out awards. I accept this award and proudly display it here for all to see. And in return I'm going to award this Blogging Mentor Award to each and everyone in my list of blogs I really read and there are a lot more who are also not in that list yet, not because I don't read your blogs but for the simple fact of me being too lazy to update my list ... LOL! So, consider yourselves all awarded as well :)
You have all in a way shaped and made my blogging a pleasant experience and this is the least I could do short of actually making a real award for you which you all know I'm too blooming cheapskate to do ... LOL! Oh, and if you guys need the image of the actual award, click here to get it. There are two variations of the award. If you want to know what this award is all about, read what the creator of the award Sue from Blogging Sueblimely has to say about it at the bottom of this post. So, here's the honour list :

I have gained so much more knowledge of blogging than I could possibly have learned just by researching the subject. This is all due to the help, support and encouragement I have received from other bloggers. I have therefore created the ‘Blogging Mentor Award‘ to recognize and thank those who help us on our path to blogging, be it encouraging and helping us to start blogging or helping us to be the best we can, once we have started.
Unlike most awards, it is not necessary to have received it yourself to be able to pass it on to others. It is free for anyone to use; anyone who wishes to say thank you to their own blog mentors. All that I ask is that you include a mention and link to my Blog Mentor Page. This way I can compile lists of those who have been generous enough to give the award and those who have received it, giving them recognition myself by some back links
What prompted me to create the award was reading that January is National Mentoring Month.in the USA. This is an initiative spearheaded by the Harvard Mentoring Project of the Harvard School of Public Health, with the aim of recruiting volunteer mentors to help young people achieve their full potential. The US ‘Thank Your Mentor Day™’ is dedicated to thanking or honoring individuals who have guided us and had a lasting impact on our lives.
Although the Blogging Mentor award is not restricted for use in January’s Mentoring Month, ‘Thank your Mentor Day‘ may be a particularly good time to use it. The date for 2008 is 24th January.

An Eye For An Eye
Initially my mom did take me to the optician to get my eyes tested and the results came out just fine. Drats I would say to myself. I absolutely must have a pair of glasses. I can't be the only one of my cousins not to have glasses. I'd try every trick in the book to get one. I'd fake headaches saying that it's cos of eyestrain. I'd even complain of fuzzy vision at times. After a few more visits to the doctors and the optician, she was on to my tricks and she never did entertain my requests for glasses from then on.
But did you think I'd give up? Nooooo, not me. I was so set of getting glasses. So, I cooked up a story one day at school and told my class teacher that I could hardly see the blackboard any longer. She switched my place to the front of the class and even then I'd pretend to squint and sometimes even getting up from my seat to read what's on the board. I thought maybe my teacher would be able to convince my mom better. And one fine day, she did call my mom and explain that maybe I did need glasses to which my mom told her that I was just faking it and to not fall for my theatrical acts anymore. The glare I got from my teacher after that was enough to convince me to move places to the back of the class again ... LOL!
Well, in time I finally gave up wanting to ever wear glasses. You could even say, good sense prevailed. Why did I need glasses when I had absolutely fine eyes. And over time I even came to hate glasses of any kind even sunglasses cos I'd start feeling uncomfortable wearing them for too long. I was glad I didn't need glasses. But you think that would be the end of it? Nooooo, all those years of faking to need glasses came back and bit me hard in the butt cos now I actually do need glasses!
My eyesight is no longer what it was years ago. I'm not blind or anything and I can see just fine, it's the night driving part that's been giving me trouble for a few years now. I suffer from astigmatism and it gets worse when it rains at night while I'm driving. I have been prescribed a couple of years ago to wear glasses for night driving and I did use them for a while. But like I said earlier I cannot wear glasses for too long cos they become utterly unbearable. And besides I don't think I look good in glasses. I'm a vain pot, I'll admit that much.
So I ditched the blooming things. So be it if I have to see starbursts in every oncoming cars headlights but for the life of me I ain't gonna wear them horrid glasses no more! They were this huge framed glasses that made me look like some pimply kid in high school or something. I don't even remember why I picked that particular frame, most probably cos it was the cheapest frames around. Oh, did I forget to mention I'm a cheapskate too? No? Well, I am ... LOL! But my night driving and in fact even my normal day vision is taking a turn for the worse the older I get and I don't think I could put off getting a pair of glasses for myself any longer.
The thing is I don't know how to go about getting one and some of those frames I've seen in the shops out there cost an arm and three legs. Man, when did these frame get so blooming expensive? I could get the cheap ones but I seriously don't want to look like some nerd (no offense to all you bespectacled nerdies out there) walking around. I have a reputation to keep, you know!
'HAHAHAHAHA, Nick, reputation, you? That's a joke, right?'
Aw shaddup! Where was I? Oh, the cost of frames. Yeah, they're pretty steep. Some even claim to be forged out of titanium, kryptonite, adamantium and the likes that they're supposed to withstand a direct nuclear detonation or something. I mean, get real people, why would you want your glasses to survive a nuclear hit when you'd probably be blown to smithereens? Crazy right? I'm seriously not willing to fork out that much money for a pair of glasses.
Maybe I should look into that Zenni Optical eyeglasses that I've been seeing on some bloggers posts out there. They've been harping that it's pretty cheap and there's a huge selection available to chose from and anything that is cheap almost always attracts my attention ... LOL! I'm just wondering how cheap is their cheap but I guess with a line like this : Zenni Optical: Sell Rx Glasses $8 with case!, they're probably real cheap ... LOL! Anyway, that aside, never wish for something you don't really need and don't really want cos eventually it'll find a way to get back at you ... I wonder how I'll look in this pair of glasses? What do you think? Oh wait, you guys don't know what I look like ... LOL!
Oh The Joy!
This is a pretty simple meme and I'm not going to elaborate too much on it cos like my good buddy said, the main reason reason of joining a meme is to increase links. While I'm not too fond of link farming (which is what this really is) and increasing links and all that stuff, I'm only going to do the meme out of courtesy for my best buddy since he tagged me. So, buddy, here's to you :D
The usual rules of a meme applies as follows:
*Start Copy Here*
- You do not have to be tagged to play along.
- Copy from *Start Copy Here* through *End Copy Here*
- Add your site(s) to the list. Just be sure to post at each site you add.
- Tag or don’t tag, your choice, however, the more tags you create the bigger the list will grow.
- Let me know your blog’s name and URL by leaving me a comment HERE. I will add you to the master list.
- Come back and copy the master list back to your site often. This process will allow late-comers to get as much link benefit as the first ones in.

The Constant Gardener.
This got me reminiscing back to my childhood to the house I grew up in. When I was growing up I used to live in this place called Kampung Tunku in Petaling Jaya. It was a decent residential area with mostly semi-detached bungalows. And we had this huge lawn both front and back. Those days most houses had huge and nice lawns unlike the terrace house of today. The lawn was so huge that we could park 3-4 cars in there and still have lots of place to play a game of football with my cousins. And that was only the front. The back was equally big.
When I was around 6 years old or so we used to have this Indian grass cutter, a nice young man who would come to our house every month end on the dot and offer his services to mow our lawn. And of course my grandmother would always say yes to him. And he'd only charge us RM20.00 for the whole front and back yard. He'd toil under the hot blazing sun for close to an hour an a half mowing our lawn with his trusty old lawn mower. Over time he became our regular gardener, cutting and sweeping the place and sometimes grandma would also get him to trim the hedges around our house. Of course grandma would pay him more for it. Sometimes after the mowing, we'd help him out with the sweeping. One thing I love is the smell of freshly cut grass.
I can still remember how excited we'd all be whenever he came with his bicycle and his lawn mower and the racket it would make when he started it up. We'd all (my cousins and me) gather outside our porch and watch him as he systematically went about doing his job. Halfway through, grandma would come with a nice pitcher of iced cold water or orange juice and lay it out for him. For us it was like a fun thing. We'd pour the drinks for him when he stopped for a rest and check out his grass covered mower. In time, he became like a close family friend to us. Grandma had no worries about us being out there with him alone. She'd knew that even though he was mowing our lawn and we'd be making a nuisance of ourselves, he'd look out for us.
And when the school holidays came by, he'd bring his son along to play with us. And he stuck with us throughout the years, even way into my early twenties, he promptly came over every month and he never raised his price. It was always RM20.00 no matter what. Sometimes I wonder how he managed to survive with those kinds of pricing. Maybe grandma paid him more, I really don't now but all I can remember is he never charged us more. And in time his health took a turn for the worse and his son who by now was grown up and around our age took over his duties. He did turn up whenever he could though.
Then one fine day, both he and his son never turned up for about two months. We were concerned but never did know how to contact him. Our relationship with him lasted purely in our lawn on that one day every month. Then one day his son finally turn up with news about his death. We were shocked, saddened and totally devastated. He was like a member of the family. We grew up with 'uncle grass cutter man' (as well called him) and now he's no longer around. His son didn't want to carry on with his dads business and I couldn't blame him. Who'd wanna be a grass cutter right? So, we bid him well and that was the end of our 'uncle grass cutter man'.
We did eventually find a new guy to replace him but somehow it was never the same. The trust, friendship and memories we shared with our 'uncle grass cutter man' was something that could never be replaced. I don't see myself or my children relating to the existing grass cutters we have these days. In fact half the time it's so difficult just trying to communicate with them and half of them look sinister to me that I wouldn't trust them in my compound for more than 10 minutes let alone an hour and a half! And besides, my lawn right now is so small that I could cut the whole place with a pair of scissors in half an hours time ... LOL! Maybe I should look for a real estate agent to help me look for a house with a bigger lawn then find myself a nice decent grass cutter and start a new tradition or something again with my kids ... LOL!

The Journey ...

Man, that was one great party. I'm glad I had it. It's been a while since I had a party of that magnitude and fun. I'm glad you all enjoyed it. What? You didn't know I had a party? But I sent each and everyone of you guys an invitation! Don't tell me you guys didn't get it? How could I not invite you guys to my 200th post party? You're all my good blogging buddies, you know. Come to think of it, that explains why I didn't see you guys at the party. In fact, that explains why I wasn't even there myself!
Would you believe I actually reached my 200th posting a couple of days ago and didn't even realize it? Yeah, I was just too busy with those darn assignments that it completely slipped my mind. I only realized it today when I saw that I had posted 202 postings already. Drats, I so did wanna do something special for my 200th posting and I was even telling wifey about it a few weeks back. And when the day finally came I completely forgot about. That is just so like you Nick!
Yes people, I've reached my 200th post. While it might not be such a big deal but for someone like me with the worlds shortest attention span in most things I do, I never thought I'd go this far and this long in blogging. Even my best buddy Adrian was skeptical cos he knows how easily I get bored of things. I surprised even myself by actually liking this blogging thing which at one time I completely thought was something really darn silly! I'm taking my foot out of my mouth now ok!
It all started one fateful day last year with me helping wifey with her blog. It was like the blind leading the blind ... LOL! Trust me, we both were total blur cases when we first started. For me, it was more of an experiment that turned into an addiction. Actually I give the credit or blame, whichever way you want to look at it ... LOL ... to wifey. It was at her prompting to start my own blog that I actually went a head and did it and there was no turning back ever since.
I must say it's been a tremendous journey up to this point where I've learned a whole new deal about the blogsphere and the wonderful people who reside in it. I remember the day I got my first comment, I was ecstatic! Some other human being in this world besides myself was actually reading my blog. I had no idea at that time what I wanted to achieve in blogging. But over time it's become an extension of myself, my feelings, my experiences and a place I can scream bloody murder in.
And I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my past, present and future visitors and friends who've taken the trouble to sit through my often long winded and sometimes silly postings and leaving all your valuable and much appreciated comments. Hope you've enjoyed reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing them :D

Restaurants, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly ...
I've even tried taking a break and walking up and down my office, we have two floors over here and even tried washing my face and it didn't help one bit. I'm still as sleepy as ever and no, don't ask me to go drink a strong glass of coffee or something cos coffee has never worked for me. No matter how much coffee I drink, I'll still be sleepy. So, I decided to do the next best thing to try and stay awake. Blog! LOL!
Well, I'm not really all that wide awake but atleast I've stopped yawning all that much. I think it's cos of the food I had for lunch today. I went for lunch with wifey this afternoon and we on our way to our regular Chinese restaurant across the road from our place called Casablanca . Yeah, I know, a Chinese restaurant with the name Casablanca? Sounds cool doesn't it ... hehehe ... In fact the other Chinese restaurant that we also normally frequent at the opposite end of the block is called Apollo! Sounds like Spiff's rocket ship doesn't it? LOL!
Anyway, we ended up not going to Casablanca for lunch cos we saw this new Malay restaurant that just opened for business. And wifey and me have this thing we like to do which is try out new places to eat, so we decided to try it out. I should have read the warning signs the moment I went in cos the place was practically deserted and it was lunch time mind you. Never mind I say, maybe it's new and no one knows about it. So we go in and it's a self serviced kinda joint. Drats, I was expecting to be served. Never mind.
So, we order our food from the very limited fare they have there. And when I say limited I mean like only 3-4 dishes on offer. I ordered mixed rice with some curried beef (it was either that or chicken, that's how limited the fare was) and wifey orders Nasi Lemak with fried chicken. Boy, for a new restaurant who desperately need some new customers, they were SOOOOOO stingy with the portions. The amount they served, even a toddler wouldn't be satisfied. And it wasn't cheap either. We forked out some pretty good money for something that was totally not satisfactory at all.
Now I understand why the place was practically deserted. I know I'm never going there again and I would love advise people from ever stepping foot in there but I really can't tell you the name of the shop cos they don't even have a name up yet! Maybe I should offer them some professional advertising tips on how to get more customers ... LOL! Next time, I think we'll just stick with Casablanca or Apollo. Serves us right for being adventurous!

A Mind Numbing Day ...
Besides the fact that I'm still groggy and the day just flew by without even me knowing, it was a pretty good holiday. My day started pretty early with the kids making a ruckus and waking both wifey and me up so damn early in the morning. Both of us slept real late last night cos we were both playing those games I downloaded. We actually wanted to sleep in a little bit today but that was not to be the case with the boys.
We planned to go out and look for dogs today but instead ended up blogging cos I had a hordes of assignments to complete so we stayed in and I scrambled to finish all of it with me actually doing 5 posts in my spaceman blog! I could hardly use my brain anymore after finishing all those assignments ... LOL! By the time we finished, it was time for lunch and the boys were already hounding us to take them for lunch.
So, I reluctantly stopped my blogging though I still had tons of assignments yet to complete and took the boys for lunch cos they were on the verge of rioting already! The weather out there was so goddamned hot that the moment I got home, I headed straight to bed to take a short nap which turned out to be a long one which is always the case with me. So, with that, half my holiday just vanished with me doing absolutely nothing constructive at all.
Oh, I mentioned above that we were supposed to go and look at some dogs, right? Well, we're in the midst of searching for a dog. Ever since we saw that dog show a couple of months back, we've been wanting to get one. We're not sure of the model, urrmmm, breed that we're looking for just yet though I'd like one of those huge ones, maybe something along the sleek cool lines of a St. Bernard or the likes of a Great Dane. I'm not into those sissy looking dogs like the Shih Tzu or the equally wussy Poodle!
I hope that when we finally get one, we'll be able to take care of it cos these dogs are pretty high maintenance. I mean we already have two hyperactive boys and adding a dog on our list of things to take care of might be a little daunting. But I won't know if I don't try right? I used to own a dog in my younger days but as I grew older I kinda gave up on them cos I no longer had the time to look after them. I still remember my first dog, I have no idea what breed it was, I think I was about 2 years old or so then. I could remember sitting on him and riding him like a horse. Then one day the fellow upped and ran away. Probably got fed up of being treated like a horse by me ... LOL! For the life of me I can't really remember his name. I think it was Benji but I'm not so sure, hey I was only 2 years old, k?
My second dog was called Tinker and he was this jet black mixed breed of a dog which again I have no idea what since I was about 4 years old at that time. I remember Tinker so vividly cos the first week I had him a puppy, the bum bit my nose and I had to get a damn jab on my butt cos of him! Unfortunately Tinker was run over by a bus one day and I remember crying my eyes out. That was the last dog I had until about 7 years old when my uncle rescued this mongrel from the road side and me and my cousins took turns looking after him. We named him Ringo and he was such a playful fellow. Sometimes just a wee bit too playful. He stayed with us for quite some years until he died of old age one fine day. We were all kinda sad and we held a funeral service for him in the backyard.
That was about the last time I owned any dog and I'm quite skeptical about my abilities to take care of one these days. But wifey and me are so set on wanting to own a dog that we'll share the responsibilities when we eventually do get one. I must make it a point this weekend to go out and look for one. I was supposed to get one before the end of January and now it's going on to February soon and I'm nowhere near to shortlisting any just yet! Oh boy, will you look at the time, it's almost time for American Idol and I haven't even had a shower yet. I guess the shower will have to wait till after the show ... LOL! I've also still got to finish this assignment on Gamefly coupons . I wonder if it's a site for me to download more games ... LOL! Looks like it's going to be another late night again today. Catch you all later folks.

Reality Showtime ...
'why not just make the whole week off, you lazy bum?'
Now that's asking just a bit too much isn't it? LOL! It's not really a public holiday though. It's just for a few states here and it's for the celebration of Thaipusam. I'm too lazy to elaborate what the festival is all about so if any of you are curious, then check what it's all about here. But to all my Hindu friends, here's wishing you a Happy Thaipusam.
I don't have any plans for tomorrow except stay home and blog (what else) and maybe catch some TV. American Idol is on tomorrow and both wifey and myself love watching it. In fact there's a host of reality shows going on now and we've shortlisted a few to watch that we plan our entire outings and grocery shopping around these shows. The second season of Heroes also starts tonight so I'll be glued to the TV and even if the world ended I'm not going to do anything until the show is over!
Today is actually our grocery shopping day and we normally do it after I get home from work. But that would mean having to miss Heroes and it would also mean having to miss my run session for today, so wifey and me decided to do the shopping during lunch. I bummed off from work a little earlier during lunch and we made a quick dash to our favourite hyper mart. At least with that out of the way, I can still put in a run session and get home in plenty of time for Heroes.
Ok, before you all start thinking that I'm a TV addict, let me dispel that notion. I'm far from being a TV addict. I'd rather be doing anything else than watching TV but there are some series like the CSI franchise, Numbers, Without a Trace, Law & Order, The Unit and now Heroes that I simply cannot miss. The good thing is all the series that I do watch start a little later in the night so I'm able to carry on with my normal life and not be ruled by the TV ... hehehe ... Unfortunately it's reality show season right now and there are a few that I simply cannot miss as well, namely American Idol, One In A Million, Amazing Race Asia, Hell's Kitchen and the upcoming Akademi Fantasia but unfortunately they all start pretty early so I'm going to have to be less sociable the next few weeks.
'when have you ever been sociable Nick?'
Hmmm, that's true, I'm the most unsociable person on the planet. In fact, if you knew me in real life, you might even say I'm a snobbish kinda person ... LOL! Well, that's what people tell me anyway. Whenever people first meet me, they always think I'm stuck up or something. It's only later when they get to know me do they know what a weirdo I am and regret getting to know me ... hehehe ... But in truth I'm far from snobbish, I'm just blooming shy but I guess the look I project on my face to hide the shyness make me look rather snobbish!
Oh drats, I just remembered something, in our grocery shopping rush just now, we forgot to buy those wet wipes thingy that we normally buy. Looks like we're going to have to go out tomorrow after all. Oh well, that's what you get for rushing.

Husband Bashing!
And while I'm waiting to warm down before having my shower I thought why not log on and blog a little. Well, I did say I was addicted to blogging right? And it's not like I have anything else better to do while waiting. Wifey is also busy on the laptop with a game she's been playing all day today. In fact, after my bath I'm going to be joining her and playing the same game cos after I downloaded it for her I made a copy of it for myself and installed in on the desktop as well :D
I mentioned in my other blog Spiff that I downloaded some games for wifey and ended up getting addicted to playing those games I got for her that we've both been playing it the past couple of days late into the wee hours of the morning even. It's not exactly the genre of games that I like playing but I happened to try it out and damn, next thing you know I was addicted to it! I blame it all on wifey for getting me hooked to her kind of games and keeping me awake till way past my bedtime ... LOL!
And speaking of bedtimes, yesterday I was totally drained from my run so I called it an early night. Wifey came to bed much later and I was like fast asleep by then. It was a weird night cos I was kinda restless throughout the night (probably cos I was in pain). And somewhere in the middle of the night, I have no idea what time, I felt this fist hitting my body. I instantly bolt up in fright (I'm a coward by the way) and see that it's wifey walloping me! I'm still groggy and move away from her and say to her:
'Honey, what's up? What did I do, what's wrong?'
She turns around facing the other side and mumbles something incoherent that I don't understand and continue sleeping. That's when I realize that she was like dreaming or something. She really can't remember anything about it nor the dream itself. I wonder what in heavens name she was dreaming about to be walloping someone and unfortunately I was the one nearest to her. Luckily she didn't have any sharp objects nearby. Man, I'd hate to think what would happen if she did ... LOL!
Actually this is really not the first time it's happened, though the walloping was a first. We've both been known to sometimes talk in our sleep at times. I'll be like in a semi sleep state sometimes and suddenly I'll hear wifey say something and when I answer her back, I'll see that she's deep in sleep. Man, it's freaky sometimes especially after a night of watching horror movies and you experience something like that. I've done the same to wifey countless times too. I wonder what world secrets I've told her in my sleep ... hehehe ... I've got nothing sinister to hide from her so no worries about my sleep talking .... well, there is that night with Jennifer Garner though ... LOL!
At least we're both only confined to sleep talking once in a while. My younger boy years ago used to freak me out at nights when he was wee lad of close to 2 years old. He used to sleep in the same room with us at that age and he'll like get up in the middle of the night, walk to the hall, stand there and stare at nothing in particular for 2-3 minutes and then walk back into the room and continue sleeping like as if nothing happened. And I'm left standing there and figuring out just what the heck happened. It freaked me out big time! I didn't dare go out into the hall after that. And he did this quite a bit too. Thank god he doesn't do that now. Told you guys I'm a coward ... hehehe ...
I'm sufficiently cooled down now, so I'm gonna head out of here and go have my shower. Hopefully tonight wifey doesn't get dreams of bashing anyone up otherwise I'll be going to work with bruises all over my body ... LOL! Maybe I could like install a popup blocker in bed for just such situations ... hehehe ...
Good Life, Good Food And Totally Unfit ...
'and pray tell just why are you in pain, you fat lazy lump of jello?'
Well, that's cos I actually started my running programme again yesterday and I haven't been running since the 22nd of November 2006 and that's a long time for me. I've used the holidays as an excuse to skip my training and have run out of excuses already this year. On top of that wifey has been reminding me that the waist line I lost before the holidays has come back and she's going to have to start calling me by my pet name 'Bulat' (literally means round in Malay) again pretty soon. And I so despise that name! I mean she could call me Mr. Macho, Hunk, Handsome, Gorgeous, God or something like that but no, it's Bulat instead! LOL!
I can't blame her really. I have packed on the pound again since Christmas. So yesterday I decided that I simply have to start running again. After all, I've been harping about how much I love running and all that, right? I dug out my cobwebbed covered (ok, that's a lie, there were no cobwebs) running shoes, put on my running gear and stepped out on the roads again for the first time in nearly two months. And boy, that two month layout sure took its toll cos I am now totally and officially unfit! All that hard work and progress I achieved before has all gone down the drain. I am totally disappointed with myself.
After the run, well, throughout the whole run really, I felt like my legs were made of rubber, I was gasping for breath, I was struggling like someone who's never run in his whole entire life. I could hardly complete the route which two months ago was a piece of cake for me. I could run this route, listen to music and sing along while doing some pretty fast times with hardly any loss of breath, but yesterday it felt like all the oxygen on earth was everywhere but inside my lungs! I was so unfit that the moment I reached home, I collapsed on the floor and lay there panting and gasping for air and hoping the earth would open up and put me out of this misery soon. That was how unfit I was.
'serves you right for bumming off all those months, you tub of lard!'
For once I'm going to have to agree with that good for nothing interloper. It serves me right for taking things too easy and living it up on good holiday food. And those junk food I've been snacking on sure didn't help very much either. Oh and wifey has banned me totally from eating any sort of junk food! She says even if we go out shopping I'm not allowed to buy anymore junk food. Oh man, that's going to be hard to do. I'm a sucker for junk food. But I guess the ban is justified. I do think I've been over doing it on the junk food department. I eat more junk food than my kids, can you believe that? The first few days of junk food withdrawal was and is still hell. But I'll get used to it eventually ... hehehe ...
Wifey: 'And no sneaking any junk food behind my back, honey cos I'll know!'
Drats, there goes plan B ... LOL! Actually I wonder how she would find out if I did sneak some junk food binge behind her back but I don't intend to find out cos that girl has some powerful telepathic skills ... LOL! Actually, it's also a good thing cos this year I intend (hopefully) to get in shape again. Wifey is fully supportive of the idea and has been backing me completely. She told me if I ever get too lazy to run, she'll nag me until I can't take it anymore and go out and run ... LOL! I guess she doesn't want me to turn into a huge woolly mammoth or something like that. Besides, I'm not getting any younger. I need to take care of my health and I'm far from being in perfect health right now.
So, even though I'm in pain and ache everywhere that can ache, I'm going to put on my running shoes a little later this evening and go out there and hit the roads again. And even if it rains I'm going to be out there running, cos the sky looks a little cloudy at the moment. Unless of course there's lightning involved with the rain. I'm terrified to death of lightning. And I live in a housing area that has the highest concentration of lighting the whole year round. Once I was out with a buddy in one of those electrical storms and a bolt of lightning struck not too far away from us. The bolt was purplish in colour, thick and you could literally see the sparks cutting through the air as it struck the ground. Even the air was filled with this burning smell. Man, that was freaking scary!
I guess if it rains, I could always stay home and work out using my can crusher as some kind of exercise tool or something. Oh, that was wifey's suggestion by the way. LOL! Ok, I better go get some rest now cos in about 4 hours I'm going to have to go drag my lazy butt and go running again. If you don't see a posting for the next few days, that probably means I'm laid up in bed! Hahaha ... Happy Sunday folks.
