Food Cheats!

The weekend for me was basically spent resting in bed but thankfully I'm on the road to recovery :) So, today, the wife and me decided to go out and get something to eat (she's still not 100% well yet, but she wanted to eat some outside food). So we went to this chinese restaurant in SS15, Subang Jaya. I ordered this plate of chicken rice and boy, the amount of rice that they served wouldn't even make a baby full!

I've been reading in the papers about the cost of stuff increasing and that food operators were still maintaining their prices so the public wouldn't have to be burdened with the increase and it makes them sounds like a nice and caring bunch of people, but the truth of the matter is, they serve much smaller and lesser portions of the food! What a bunch of fakes! Even the drink my wife ordered which was iced tea was so watered down it tasted totally bland.

They might as well just increase the price and serve some better quality food than these watered down tasteless nonsense and all in the name of not burdening the consumers out there by maintaining their prices. Sounds like a nice righteous bunch of people. Bull, I tell you! (I actually have much vulgar expletives running through my mind but this is a family rated blog ... hehehe)

To be honest, I've actually been reading about this in the papers but never really believed it cos I don't really eat out that much. I'm more of a person who likes home-cooked food (the wife makes wonderful dishes) and the shops that I've eaten in so far have all been serving an okay amount of food. Today was my first real experience with these so called 'maintain our price so as to not burden the consumer' food cheats. And I was totally appalled by it. Well, it looks like I'm gonna be eating more home cooked food from now on or maybe just patronize my regular food places where they know me and don't cheat me out of a good and satisfying meal :)

Boy, it sure feels good to be healthy and back to my usual complaining about everything under the sun routine. LOL! As a good buddy of mine would always say, 'you're getting to be a grouch in your old age dude' :)

  1. A business that maintains prices to lessen the burden for the average person is typically called a "charity" :P Businesses are in business for themselves, and some people will use any excuse to scam others out of an extra 10 cents of rice.

I've seen the same thing here in Vancouver thanks to the upcoming 2010 Olympics. Still three years to go and some of the Thai and Chinese resteraunts around here are finding every excuse to increase their prices or reduce portion size (or both).

    There's capitalism for ya.

Glad to see you're feeling better :)

  2. Hey Jason, 'Charity', that's a neat way to summarise things. It happens alot here but this is the first time it happened to me personally. Like I said, no more outside food for me at places I'm not familiar with anymore.

  3. An easy way to give these traders a lesson is NOT to patronise their shops anymore. It's not easy letting go of your favourite roti canai & wantan mee, but the power is always in our hands:)

  6. Nick!! I spent almost RM50 on a LOUSY dinner last night, food was EXTREMELY salty (I think the cook added in like 3 huge scoops of salt!), watermelon juice tasted like sky juice with some watermelon seeds and the so called appetizer was unbelievably tiny and tasteless! :( :( I was too shocked to throw a tantrum but I'm NEVER going back there again!

  7. Marzie, I understand your frustration and I sympathize with you. Yeah, the best is not to go back to that place and better still, spread the word how lousy their food are. That'll learn 'em! I'm just gonna stick to home cooked food, you can't go wrong there.
