The weekend came and went faster than I could say 'weekend'! But it was a great weekend indeed. Only regret is that it ended way too soon and here I am again back at work on my most hated day of the week, Monday! Well, at least Chelsea lost ... hahaha!
Anyway, those of you who visits my other blog would definitely know I went for a barbecue over the weekend at my good buddy Adrian's place. We've actually been planning for the barbecue for ages and it finally materialized and we all had such a great time. I know I was stuffed silly from all the eating and drinking ... LOL!
The barbecue was actually in honour of our other good buddy who is finally going to tie the knot with his girlfriend. Adrian and myself have been looking forward to that day for as long as we can remember. And we're pretty happy for him. At least now he can join our ball and chain gang (as my buddy Adrian so nicely put it ... hehehe)
We've all been friends for more than 20 years now and it was fun reminiscing old times (well, we always reminisce old times whenever we meet, so nothing new there ... LOL!) I've never really known anyone else as long as these guys. In fact, we've know each other so much longer than we've known our own wifes!
Well, the barbecue proper started around 7 plus I would say. When I reached my buddy's house around 6 pm he was still busily trying to get the fire started, and there I thought everything would be ready and we could all start eating cos I was already bloody hungry seeing as how I refrained from having my lunch ... LOL!
I asked him what was taking him so long to get the fire started and he said, 'hey buddy, I've been here since 5pm trying to get this started, ok!' Yeah, right buddy ... LOL! I know you were online at that time ... hehehe. And me being my usual pesky self, told him to let me try. And after some effort, I gave up cos I sure ain't good at trying to get the fire going (at least I know I'm not gonna be able to cut it as an arsonist ... LOL!).
There we were struggling away when the guest of honour turned up and when he saw our miserable attempt at getting things going, he gave us this pathetic look and got the fire going ... yay, hour hero, I think not, that bloody show off ... LOL! Well, he did finally get the fire started and the food finally made it to the pit :)
I think the kids were already pretty hungry by then from all the playing they were doing earlier. Adrian had his nephew there and together with my youngest boy, they made quite a racket! Adrian's cute little daughter sat on one of the chairs outside and quietly watched the fun like a little angel :D Oh and she finally called me Uncle Nick that day .... hehehe ...
Once the food started getting cooked, we all had such a great time stuffing ourselves silly. I never realized I could get so stuffed on just sausages, chicken wings, fish (didn't touch the stuff) and pork strips but I was stuffed nonetheless. And we had loads of food leftover. To be honest, I was kinda worried that the food wouldn't be enough for everyone. The night before the barbecue, the wife and me went and bought the chicken wings and stuff and the wings were in low supply (for some strange reason ...) and we just bought whatever was left which was wasn't much to begin with.
The next morning we kinda said that maybe we should get some salad as well just in case the food wouldn't be enough, so we went out again and got some salad stuff and brought that along but in the end, we shouldn't really have worried so much cos the food was plenty enough :D The kids walloped as much sausages as their bellies could fit to the point my elder boy, who eats nothing but sausages (and he happens to love sausages) actually said he couldn't eat anymore ... LOL, which really surprised the wife cos that boy can eat a horse, a camel, a tyrannosaurus and still be hungry!
That was my first barbecue in such a long time that I thoroughly enjoyed myself :) We plan to make this a monthly thing right after our buddy's wedding and I thought that was a great idea. We'd be taking turns to play hosts and hopefully we'll be able to pull it off as a monthly thing.
Sadly the night had to end and we all headed home cos it was also way past the kids bedtime and I had to get up early to send the kids for Sunday School (which I ended up not going ... LOL!) For a different take on the barbecue night, check out my buddy's blog for his posting on it. (hopefully he gets it up soon ... hehehe)
Great! Now I have to post mine fast! Thanks a lot buddy! LOL Great Post...can I just copy it and change the names LOL
ReplyDeleteNick, BBQ over at Adrian's sure is a good weekend to mention. Glad that the fire finally lighted after a few rounds of attempts. I've not been to any BBQ for a nearly 2 yrs *sob*. Can someone invite me? hehe :)
ReplyDeleteJanice Ng
Isn't it funny how there is always too much food at these things? I think most of us have a morbid fear that there won't be enough food when we entertain and then there's all that waste....shocking. Glad you had a good time stuffing your face and catching up with good friends.
ReplyDeletei miss having BBQ!yummy!
ReplyDeleteAdrian, sure, by all means, go ahead and use the same post, you lazy boy! LOL!
ReplyDeleteDon't keep us waiting too long for the post, k? :D
Janice, we have to thank our other buddy for getting the fire started ... LOL! Next time we invite you to our BBQ, k? LOL!
ReplyDeleteGypsy, I can't remember a time when there wasn't enough food at any gathering ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou're right when you say we all have this morbid fear of not having enough food during events.
Well, at least the food didn't go to waste cos I took the leftovers home and had them for dinner the next day :D
Shana, go ahead and have one already and don't forget to invite all of us, k? LOL!

Monthly get togethers are always fun!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good time and I hope your son didn't get a belly ache from all the sausages.
Nick, there's no other thing like having the company of old, real friends. Whether it's over a piece of barbecue or over a cup of coffee. Try to see my new post cause I think we had "the same substance" of blog today. Would you agree?

I AM CAMPAIGNING FOR THREE DAY WORK WEEKS AND 4 DAYS OFF!
Ahhh, I'm going to miss BBQ weather... very soon. So glad you got one very good one in. Now I know why there are always soooo many salads at parties.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such a great time Nick. Did you shop at the hypermart?
ReplyDeleteDiamond, no he didn't get a belly ache, I did ... LOL!
ReplyDeletemonthly get togethers are always great, now if only we could actually make that happen!
Albine, I have to agree with you on the true old friends part. It just doesn't work with fake friends ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh, you have a new post? I'll go check it out later today. Have a nice day.
Ah, so the struggle for fire is everywhere, not just when Im trying to light one! LOL It always looks like its never enough to feed a crowd, doesnt it? And yet somehow theres always leftovers, tehehe!
ReplyDeleteSugar queen, propane sounds like a good idea, now why didn't we think of that ... LOL! Glad you enjoyed the post. Hope to see yo around more.
ReplyDeleteLord Manila Stone, well, I don't really think I could get a hangover from drinking Coke light and shandy, but I'll try ... LOL! (Just kidding ...) We didn't really have any of the 'heavy' stuff. But we did enjoy ourselves though
ReplyDeleteMeleah, put me on your campaign list ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous boxer ... LOL! Come to think of it, you make sense about the salads :D
ReplyDeleteMP, how did you guess I shopped at the hypermart? You psychic or something? LOL! Yeah, we did get the stuff from the hypermart. They have these lovely marinated chicken wings but unfortunately there wasn't very much that day. The whole of Malaysia must have been on some BBQ thingy, I guess :D
ReplyDeleteLavender, phew, glad my buddy and me are not the only ones who can't light fires ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteI guess it's a universal thing being afraid that the food won't be enough to feed everyone, ya?
spiff told me. You know what a blabbermouth he is!
ReplyDeleteMP, that Spiff is such a blabbermouth, got to be careful what I tell him in future, don't want him revealing all my nasty little secrets now can I? LOL
ReplyDeleteBBQ is something I look forward all the time!! Too bad, not many of my "gang" are in KL, else we'll be BBQ every weekend. LOL!
ReplyDeleteStruggling with fire? Back in Sabah at my parents' place, we always start a BBQ fire by burning a biji sawit. (palm oil seed?) Since my dad work in an estate, it's easy to pluck a palm oil (seed?) for the fire. Works real good! (no kerosene or whatever it is used to light those charcoal involved!)
Cindy, I think if we used that biji sawit, we'd probably have to call the fire department la ... LOL! We didn't use any kerosene at all, my buddy had this urrrmm, fire starter thingy, I don't know the name but it still didn't work, told you we were useless at starting fires :D
ReplyDeleteHmmm, maybe next time I'll order some biji sawit from you for our next BBQ ... LOL!
nick, you're one lucky guy on earth! u hv good wifey, good family, and good buddies!! it's always a lot fun to have BBQ with your bunch of close friends. what's more of 20 years? that's just a blessing! i can feel the excitement from here!
ReplyDeleteoh, my darling is known as the fire starter coz he can easily start the fire for BBQ. Next time u plan to hv a BBQ, call me, i'll get u a fire starter! LOL! :)
Jean, cool, at least now we know where to look for a fire starter ... LOL! Yeah, it really is great having a great wife, a good family and 2 great buddies :D I'm so anti-social that I don't have any other real friends ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of fish, I'm shy to say that I can't tell the difference bet tenggiri, merah etc. Unless it's written on the packaging. But ikan pari of course I know la! :):):)
ReplyDeleteMarzie, how can you not tell the difference between fishes? LOL! Well, neither can I really. All I know is tenggiri is the sort of square (to me it looks square when cut) fish with the bone in the middle ... hehehe ... the rest all look the same to me ...
