Restaurants, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly ...

Gosh, I'm so sleepy right now I can hardly keep my eyes open. I can't even concentrate on the work that I need to get done and I do have quite a bit to finish. I don't know why I'm so sleepy cos I didn't really stay up too late last night. Both wifey and me called it an early night and by right I should have had enough sleep yet I've been yawning all day and trying to keep my eyes open and concentrate on work feels like a chore.

I've even tried taking a break and walking up and down my office, we have two floors over here and even tried washing my face and it didn't help one bit. I'm still as sleepy as ever and no, don't ask me to go drink a strong glass of coffee or something cos coffee has never worked for me. No matter how much coffee I drink, I'll still be sleepy. So, I decided to do the next best thing to try and stay awake. Blog! LOL!

Well, I'm not really all that wide awake but atleast I've stopped yawning all that much. I think it's cos of the food I had for lunch today. I went for lunch with wifey this afternoon and we on our way to our regular Chinese restaurant across the road from our place called Casablanca . Yeah, I know, a Chinese restaurant with the name Casablanca? Sounds cool doesn't it ... hehehe ... In fact the other Chinese restaurant that we also normally frequent at the opposite end of the block is called Apollo! Sounds like Spiff's rocket ship doesn't it? LOL!

Anyway, we ended up not going to Casablanca for lunch cos we saw this new Malay restaurant that just opened for business. And wifey and me have this thing we like to do which is try out new places to eat, so we decided to try it out. I should have read the warning signs the moment I went in cos the place was practically deserted and it was lunch time mind you. Never mind I say, maybe it's new and no one knows about it. So we go in and it's a self serviced kinda joint. Drats, I was expecting to be served. Never mind.

So, we order our food from the very limited fare they have there. And when I say limited I mean like only 3-4 dishes on offer. I ordered mixed rice with some curried beef (it was either that or chicken, that's how limited the fare was) and wifey orders Nasi Lemak with fried chicken. Boy, for a new restaurant who desperately need some new customers, they were SOOOOOO stingy with the portions. The amount they served, even a toddler wouldn't be satisfied. And it wasn't cheap either. We forked out some pretty good money for something that was totally not satisfactory at all.

Now I understand why the place was practically deserted. I know I'm never going there again and I would love advise people from ever stepping foot in there but I really can't tell you the name of the shop cos they don't even have a name up yet! Maybe I should offer them some professional advertising tips on how to get more customers ... LOL! Next time, I think we'll just stick with Casablanca or Apollo. Serves us right for being adventurous!

  2. Hi!! "decided to do the next best thing to try and stay awake. Blog! LOL!" That certainly wakes me up too! Sometimes I feel like that too, all sleepy or tired or just bored...it is difficult to focus when I am like that.

  3. Sometimes I wonder why people open up a business if they're not gonna go all out.. 3-4 dishes?? That's like eating at home..

That's the reason why I don't like trying out new places. Even if I wanna try a new place out, I'll go for the ones that are full of customers. Well, at least you now know not to go there ever!

And I too, always give excuses for the restaurant if there's not many ppl around..saying the same thing u did..that it's new and nobody knows abt it..but always end up disappointed lol! :):):)

  6. I have a hard time blogging when I'm sleepy, always ended up napping or going to bed :-)

I would suggest the name Deep Impact for that restaurant for the impact is so deep that after the first try, people would never eat there again.

  7. LOL, I was afraid to read this post..I thought you were going to talk about bugs being in your food or something of that nature!

  8. Well I don't see business improving if they aren't even organised enough to have a name. Good grief! You can't advertise something that doesn't have a name or much in the way of food for that matter. I give them 2 weeks before they mysteriously disappear.

  9. Lady Java - Pathetic isn't it? I've never been to a restaurant that served so little dishes!

And we the way they operate, even a professional advertising advise isn't going to help them ... LOL!

  12. Syura - I get more dishes eating at home! I seriously do hope they increase their fare options or I'll bet you a dollar they'll close soon.

Yeah, wifey and me learned out lesson, next time we'll stick to restaurants that are packed with customers :D

  13. Marzie - Good, at least wifey and me are not the only silly padan muka couple! LOL!

Sometimes you just won't know if they're good or not by not trying right? But just like you guys we end totally disappointed at the end of the day!

But then, knowing the two of us, we'll still be suckers and try out more new places ... LOL!

  14. Nessa - Ubi Kayu, that is a good food joint isn't it? Loads of stuff to choose from that sometimes I can even decide what to eat ... LOL!

And they're packed crazy with customers too that you have to be there early to get a place. Food is tasty as well.

Damn, now I feel like eating there too ... LOL! So much for my diet ... hahaha ...

  15. Marlene - Blogging is what keeps me awake. It's when I'm not blogging that I'm sleepy ... LOL!

Deep Impact ... LOL! That is just way too good a name to give them ... They should just remain nameless ... LOL!

  16. Diamond - That wouldn't have been so bad ... LOL!

Bugs in food is something that I simply cannot put up with. I've had a few experiences in my lifetime and I'm still scarred by it that I don't eat that particular food anymore for fear of finding bugs in them!

  17. Gypsy - Whoa, and I thot I was being nasty when I gave them a month before they close. Yours is even better, two weeks :D

I think they just rushed into opening the place, but the least they could do was at least have a name. Now they're been labeled by me as the No Name Shop ... LOL!

  22. Cindy - Yeah, I hate stingy restaurants too. I mean I don't mind paying for the food but don't la be so kedekut with the portions.

  29. I don't think you are being too fair. A restaurant always needs at least a year before it reaches a basic potential. They feel shit out at first and probably have absolutely no money. Maybe even newbies in the industry. I encourage you to give them feedback and question their limited offerings. After all, it is a local business that you would want to support right? Do them a favor and visit again next year.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Upset Waitress - What? Me not being fair? I ate there didn't I? LOL!

Well, they should have got their act together before even planning to open a restaurant. They should realize that most repeat business starts with good word of mouth advertising and so far they've started out on the wrong foot cos even Gypsy said she gives them 2 weeks before they close shop ... LOL!

  31. thats really ridiculous, am not sure what the owners want with that?? they wont survive for long being this way.
anyways Nick, next time be careful when choosing place for lunch ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lena - That's what I thought too ... I'll try to be more picky the next time but I can't resist trying out new places ... LOL!
