Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head ...

I had my mind set to go get some stuff from the Ramadhan bazaar today and made plans with wifey as early as lunch time, telling her I'll be home a little early to fetch her to the bazaar. I've been wanting to go and savour some of the mouth watering dishes they have there since they started business on Monday.

And seeing as how our fridge is pretty bare at the moment and there really was nothing to cook for dinner tonight as we haven't done our grocery shopping just yet, packing some food from the bazaar seemed like a pretty good idea. Besides I've been salivating all day imaging the sumptuous food there.

I told wifey I was going to go wild and buy everything I laid my eyes on, to hell with my diet for this month. I could always get back to it next month ... hehehe ...

So, the stage was set, there I was eagerly waiting for the time I could leave the office and head home to pick up wifey. Then, the worse that could happen, happens. It bloody well starts raining. And heavily at that. I look at the time and curse. It's almost time for me to head off and with rain that heavy, how in heavens name were we going to go food hunting.

But I was determined. Rain or no rain, I drove home to pick wifey up, headed to my younger boys school to pick him up and then in the pouring rain, the three of us headed for the stalls in our umbrella, well wifey and the younger fellow had the umbrella anyway. I was decked in my waterproof windbreaker with the hood up and we gaily pushed and jostled our way through the rest of crowd.

I was surprised at the amount of people there, with their colourful umbrellas all seeking to buy the tons of food on offer there. Even though everyone was practically getting soaked to the bone despite the umbrellas and all, that didn't stop them. They were all as determined as we were in seeking some Ramadhan goodies ... hehehe ...

Let's just say in the end it was kinda worth it cos I was stuffed silly during dinner. We ended up buying quite a few things. Wifey as expected went for all the cakes and savory stuff. My younger boy requested the 'Roti John' and 'keropok lekor' (some kind of fish crackers, best I can translate this ...) and me, well, I settled for beef soup seeing as how I couldn't locate the 'sup kambing' stall. We also bought two dishes for dinner which was 'nangka masak lemak' (urmmm, young jackfruit in some stew) and 'daging masak kichap' (beef with thick soy sauce).

Overall I would say that everything tasted as yummy as I imagined it would except for the soup which was horribly bland. I ended up boiling it again and adding more flavoring to it which helped a little. But I was a little shocked at cost of all the things we bought. Though we didn't really buy all that much, it came up close to RM40.00! Not really what I expected everything to cost.

The price of things have really gone up by a lot. I don't remember the price being that high last year. Imagine if I needed to satisfy my cravings for Ramadhan goodies every day, I'd probably go broke by next week. I mean the food is good and all that but the price has got me thinking twice about visiting that bazaar everyday. Maybe once or twice a week would suffice. Unless of course they accepted credit cards ... LOL!

And speaking about credit cards and all that, if you're thinking of getting a credit card for yourself and trust me, with the cost of things out there some good credit helps quite a bit and you don't really know which card to choose from the many available out there, all you have to do is visit Credit Card Analyzer through this link http://www.credit-card-analyzer.com/Visa-Credit-Card-8373788-page.php and you'll be able to find and compare just about any credit card and the deals they offer. Pretty useful site really. Trust me on that one cos I checked it out :D

I think I'm going to head to bed right now cos I'm totally stuffed and my eyes can't seem to stay open any longer. Must be all that good and deliciously rich food I had just now. In fact I'm still so stuffed, I feel a little like Jabba the Hut right now. This month of Ramadhan is so going to ruin my diet. I'm going to have to work extra hard after the festivities are over just to shed the added weight I'm expecting to put on from visiting Ramadhan bazaars around town. I've heard there are some other pretty good ones outside from where I live and I plan to go try them out this weekend :D

Buurrrrpppppp .... Oh, do excuse my horrible manners ... LOL!

  1. Phwoar!!! Food! I haven't gone to one of the many Ramadan bazaars yet, and those photos you took will probably just give me that extra push!

That roti john looks humongous. Too bad you can't get them here in Sabah. :(

Exercise? Just go and cut your lawn with the shears again. That should help! :)

  2. Ever since Ramadhan started, I haven't been to a bazaar yet. Imagine fasting the whole day and with the amount of food they have there, you can imagine the bulk of food i always end up buying. Last2, makan karipap only! LOL! This year I budget rm5 only per buka puasa! haha.. kenyang also what!

The one at Putrajaya is damn big and damn nice.. Got soooo much variety. If you rajin, go there lahh.. hehehe..

  3. It would be hard for me not to eat during Ramadhan seeing these sweets and all, hehee! That nangka in stew is interesting. Haven't eaten nangka being cooked.

But I'm more excited when Ramadhan is over cos my Muslim colleagues would always celebrate with their foods with us. :-)

I don't know how to greet you on this Ramadan days, but do you say, Happy Ramadhan? :-D

  5. Although I love Ramadhan Bazaars, quality wise, it has deteriorated over the last 10 years with an alarming rate...

  6. Perry - It is humongous! My boys couldn't really finish it and they have huge appetites at that :D But it could also be cos one of them is sick.

Urrmmm thanks for reminding me of that buddy, you're a great help ... hehehe ... Actually it does need a trim la. See how tomorrow la ... :D

  7. Syura - A RM5 budget? I couldn't get more than 5 piece of karipap with that la ... hehehe ... And that definitely won't fill my ever expanding waistline ... hehehe ...

But seriously, wifey and me have decided that we going to cut down on buying stuff cos it really is priced a little too high to visit the bazaar everyday ... maybe for the cakes it will be okay la.

Where exactly in Putrajaya is the Ramadhan bazaar, I just might drop by this weekend :D

  8. Marlene - It is hard to resist and the fact that the bazaar is just across the road from where I live makes it almost impossible :D

Happy Ramadhan sounds right but I normally wish my Malay friends 'Selamat Berpuasa' (Happy fasting) :D

  14. Kadus Mama - LOL! We had quite a bit of leftovers still in the fridge.

I don't really like the namgka masak lemak, it's more of wifey's favourite. I was more in the daging masak kicap :D

  15. Meleah - Well, most of it was pretty decent except for the beef soup. That was totally not anywhere close to how beef soup should be tasting ...

  16. BT - The rain didn't stand a chance against me ... hehehe ...

Yeah, I love Malay food too but unfortunately the real good ones are too few and far between.

  20. hubby just came back with buka puasa food! he went to the baazar ramadhan and brought home nasi beriani, rendang beef, roti john (yup!) and roti jala. that should be enough for tonight's dinner. Yay! no need to cook. LOL!

  21. Mmmmm yummy. Methinks you like your food almost as much as you love your sleep and hate Mondays. Not that I've gotten to know your little habits or anything :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. The World According To Me - Soon we probably would need to get a bank loan to just buy food ... LOL!

  23. Carol - Oooo nasi beriani, I love the stuff and beef rendang lagi, I love the stuff la ... Good thing wifey is cooking beef rendang for me tonight :D

  26. WOW! We have such bazaars over here too, and lots of mouth watering goodies can be found in them too!

I especially love those kueys the malay aunties sell...they are sweet and soft, WOW!!

  28. Rozella - LOL! it does look like it doesn't it? I'm a sucker for Ramadhan bazaars la. Every time I go I want to buy everything I see in every stall ... hehehe ...

    ReplyDelete
  29. KM - Those kuehs the Malay aunties sell are my wife's favourite too. She's really into all those sweet stuff, unlike me. I go for the heavier beef rendang, fried chicken kinda food.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Emelda - Tell me about it. After we bought everything and went to home and counted all the stuff, we were amazed we spent RM40!

No la, I think these days better to eat at home, so much cheaper. But then. these bazaars only come out once a year, so have to sacrifice some money la ... hehehe ...

    ReplyDelete
  31. So far, every evening we only spend rm10 for buka puasa for the whole family. Staples: Pisang goreng -rm 2, murtabak - 2 ringgit, variety of kuih muih - 2, cakoi - rm 1 and yeah.. that's pretty much it. And mom will make egg sandwiches and fry rice or some noodles.

And even that, we cannot finish.

But maybe if we were in KL, it would be totally different! Maybe we'd be spending a whole lot too!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Shemah - Murtabak for RM2.00? Really? The ones we have here are RM3.50! Man, I love murtabak and if it was RM2 over here, I'll buy a a whole load of them ...

    ReplyDelete
  33. That's a whole lotta goodies Nick! Even we don't buy so much for buka he he! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Marzie - It was the first day la and I just had to satisfy my cravings ... hehehe ... I've cut it down to just getting cakes these days. So much cheaper too ... hehehe ...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, the things here are still pretty cheap lah.. Cumanya.. susah want to find the really sedap ones. The cakoi.. (you know which one kan?) the one with the butter and kaya.. for rm1 you can still get 2. So still can jimat laa.. But we've really downgraded our buka puasa feast this year! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Shemah - That's nice to know. I can't say the same about the things here though.

Ya, I know the kind you mention. That is cheap. If I'm not mistaken, it's like 70 cents a piece here ...

I've downgraded my buka puasa spending to just RM6.00 or so a day :D

  37. We went to Kelana Jaya's PR last weekend. I gotta say they have a better variety than the one at Subang SS14. Maybe we'll check out Bangsar's PR this weekend! :D

    ReplyDelete
  38. Marzie -I've been to the Kelana Jaya one and yeah, it's pretty good. I don't know about the SS14 one cos this year I haven't been to that one just yet. Maybe this weekend la. Bangsar too far for me, I so lazy to drive that far ... :D
