Supreme Beings!

GEORGE TOWN: Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail has refused to apologise over his racist remark calling the Chinese community "immigrants who do not deserve equal rights".

"Why should I apologise? I didn't do anything wrong. Those who do wrong should aplogise but I haven't done anything," Ahmad said when The Star met him outside his Bayan Baru Office yesterday.

He, however refused to comment on whether the press misquoted him.

What you see up there is an excerpt from our local daily which I stumbled upon this morning. And I was absolutely shocked at what I read! What is this country turning into? What future awaits my kids with people like this around?

For my friends that are not of these parts, let me give you a run down on what that is all about and why I feel so ashamed for this country right now. And on a Friday even, which happens to be my favourite day of the week.

This all started during a recently concluded by-election we had that was won by the opposition (rightly so in my opinion) and during the campaign, that learned gentleman up there uttered the words that the Chinese community are just immigrants who do not deserve equal rights. That caused quite a bit of controversy, especially with the Chinese community wanting his head.

You see, I live in a multi racial country and I am proud of it (well, maybe not anymore). We have so many different races and cultures here but there are generally 3 main races, the Malays, Chinese and Indians with the rest like me falling under the 'Others' category. But one thing we all have in common was that we are Malaysians through and through. We all shared the same rights just like every other race in this country.

And so this bigot, Datuk Ahmad Ismail, a division chief (how someone like this becomes a division chief is beyond me) of the ruling political party in this country can utter those degrading remarks about the Chinese community beats the hell out of me. Yeah, sure the Chinese came here from China and all that, so did the Indians. But they all came here to work hard and help build the country together, all three races and us others too of course (hehehe) and became proud citizens of Malaysia.

Anyways, this got the Chinese political parties, both the ruling coalition ones and the opposition ones shouting bloody murder at this racist demanding an explanation. None was forthcoming from him. He disappeared from the limelight and even failed to show up at Police stations requesting his presence to explain his racialistic statements to them. And his excuse was he was leading a Sepak Takraw team for a tournament in Bangkok or something (yeah and I was with Sarah Palin last night ... LOL!).

And yet, this distinguished (I use the term very loosely here) gentleman refused to come forward and explain his statements. It took the Deputy Prime Minister to apologise on his behalf, which I don't see why he had to but it was might decent of the fellow. But as expected, the Chinese community wanted none of that. They wanted this distinguished gentleman himself to apologise and explain that statement and I don't blame them, I would want the same thing if I were in their shoes too.

And today I read in the papers that he says he has done nothing wrong and that he doesn't need to apologise. Only people who do wrong need to apologise. Well, thats fine and dandy Datuk Ahmad. So it's okay to be a racist, ya? It's okay to go and insult another human being, let alone the whole community? Is this guy for real, ah? Which part of practically telling a whole community of Malaysian citizens that they're a bunch of immigrants and that they don't deserve equal rights not wrong?

So it's really not wrong for me to go up to him and say that he's an asshole right? And that's he a bona fide bigot, right? Cos in my opinion I don't think that's wrong too. Sigh, I'm seriously at a loss as to the level of intelligence this Datuk Ahmad has. What really goes through his mind all day? I suppose he thinks he's way above every other human being, the all powerful one and all the rest of us are just useless immigrants squatting here in Malaysia. I wonder if Portugal will take me back cos I sure as hell would love to leave this country right now. People like him make this country a miserable place to live in.

I have loads of friends from all races and nationalities and they're all such nice people. We all get along very well, it doesn't matter about the colour of our skin or the language we speak. We all get along well and live in harmony with each other. I don't think of my Chinese friends as just being Chinese, I don't think of my Indian friends as just being an Indian or my Kadazan or even my American and British blog friends as just being another race. To me, you're all my friends, a fellow human being. Period!

I grew up running around with my Malay buddies, going cycling with my Indian friends, playing football with my Chinese neighbours and never once did I think they didn't deserve to be here or thought of them as a lesser race. Back then times were much better and the country was a great place to live in. If anything were to happen to any one of us, we all stood together side by side and faced it as one. Not as a Malay, Chinese, Indian or Others. We were proud to be known as Malaysians.

But with the likes of people like Datuk Ahmad around, it doesn't speak volumes for the Multi racialness of this country anymore. I hope something can be done and that here is some glimmer of hope or even a tiny speck of light at the end of the tunnel so I can at least be at ease knowing my kids will grow up proud to be a Malaysian and not just as defined under the 'Others' category.

I'm so sorry to have brought up a dismal subject on such a beautiful Friday but like I said in a posting long ago. Stupid and silly people attract me like a moth to a flame. My faith in the powers that be have long since diminished and whoever is going to pull this country through, I hope you do it as a true Malaysian. We're badly in need of some help!

  1. It takes everyone to make up a country and make it progress. What he should be promoting is harmony, not sow discord among the citizens.

  2. Wow. I just learned SO much about your culture from reading this one post.

I think there are Datuk Ahmad's ALL OVER THE WORLD.

But, its people LIKE YOU that make the real and positive differences.

  3. Hi Nick,
I actually wanted to post something on the similar topic but decided not to or else I might fuel up some of my more passionate readers. But since you are talking about it, hope you dont mind letting express my two-cent-worth thoughts here ^_^

I totally agree with you and shivers when I imagine my kids that I will have in the future growing up in a country lead by racist such as Datuk Ahmad. In my opinion, ppl like him are the ones that started something like KKK and bash people up simply because they thought others are immigrants and they have the right to claims privileges.

Do you realised like the ruling party often use race as their tool although they keep on TELLING us NOT to be racist and that we should unite? I might be wrong but I think our country is the one country whereby the political parties are by race. So, tell me again that we should not be racist when our leaders are thinking towards that way!

If you think of it, do you know how many race are they in Japan? No right? They just call themselves Japanese and that is it. But Malaysian, we tell people we are Chinese/ Indian/ Malay/ Iban/ Kadazan/ etc from Malaysia. Get what I am trying to say?

Despite all this, I do not want to leave Malaysia. I love and am proud to be a Malaysian. I just wish that the people leading the country are not so....stewpid.

  4. I read that news with pure disgust! I really do hope action is taken by our "wonderful" govt against imbeciles like this, strip him of datukship! Moron!

  5. The root of the problem lies at the top, UMNO. It has displayed absolute incompetence and thus its members behave like louts.

  6. BT - Unfortunately some morons like this fellow over here seem to think otherwise. The world would be a better place if people were nice to each other ...

  7. Meleah - Sadly it's true what you say, Meleah, there are loads of people like this guy all over the world. Just what is it that they think makes them so much more superior than the rest of us? I'd like to see inside their small pea brain just to see how it works, or rather why it doesn't work!

I do hope that I can make a tiny bit of difference. It would mean so much for me to know that.

  8. Jen - Wow, you're even more pissed than I am ... LOL! But rightly so I would say.

It's this 'I am more superior than you' notion that makes people like this what they are. They cannot accept the fact that we're all deep down inside the same regardless of creed, colour or religion.

I'm seriously looking forward to the day we can all call ourselves a Malaysian and not like what you said Chinese Malaysian, Indian Malaysian, etc, etc ...

I love this country. I grew up here but I'm deeply sad to see it deteriorating day by day ...

  9. Gallivanter - Honestly speaking, if it was anyone else, they would have invoke the ISA on them already. I'm just perplexed as to why they're treating this moron with kids glove ...

Yes, I second what you said about stripping his Datukship.

  10. Dano - First of all, welcome to my blog :D

Well said my friend. It lies with the top people. It's a lead by example thing I suppose.

And what is sad is it's getting worse and worse every single day and they, the top people come up with all sorts of crap and expects us to just swallow it whole ...

Siggghhh, do we look like we have the words STUPID printed on our foreheads?

  11. sigh... try not to let him get onto your nerves.. it takes a man to realise his mistakes and a better man to apologise... so go and enjoy your weekend and the buka puasa spread! yummy!

  12. you should have listen to the way he claimed he is not wrong over NTV7 news yesterday evening. Such an arrogant asshole.

  13. I also live in a multi cultural community Nick and like you I believe we are all Aussies no matter where we may hail from originally. There will always be bigots in this world spreading their vile filth, unfortunately when it's a person in power they reach a wider audience.

Good for you for speaking out against him. He's just filth Nick and not worthy of you wiping your boots on.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  14. Nick, I also dont know what is going (or what have already happen)to happen to our country! This year is a very challenging year, being opposition gaining the upper hand in winning a fair share of voters. it would be good to see the result in the next election or by-election! Keep tuning!!

  15. you've made a difference in my little world! Thats for sure.

  17. Sting - I am trying not to let him get on my nerves but then I read more about this in the papers today and it's depressing me even further ...

Anyways, it's the weekend, so I'll definitely do my utmost to push this issue from my mind :D

  18. Carol - I gave up watching the local news which is really so biased. In fact today, the asshole is instead asking the newspaper that wrote the report to apologize to him instead! Can you believe that?

  19. Gypsy - He is the lowest form of animal as far as I'm concerned. People like these should experience what the Jews went through during the war, then maybe they wouldn't be so racialistic. But then, people like these probably welcome what was done to the Jews back then ...

  20. Rose - Ya, I'm hoping a change will sweep over this country soon before things really get out of hand ...

  24. the most ridiculous statement from a man whom is suppose to command respect!

he's just one bad apple in the basket, cheer up yeah, Nick...there are other good ones out there, helping the citizens, addressing the needs and concerns..

I seriously hope Malaysia won't get worse by day... :( We do really need some help! :(

  27. KM - It is worse than ridiculous. It's the sort of statements that can lead to wars! What a moron.

And the worse thing he's not just ONE bad apple. The latest I read is he has a whole group of other divisions in his state supporting him and his statements and he's even now asking the press to apologise to him instead!

  28. Monica - Hey there, it's good to see you here again, so that's what happened to you, connection problems huh? Let me guess, you're using TMNet ... hehehe ...

A great weekend to you too ...

  29. Emelda - Well, at least the bunch of people I know like my close friends, my work friends, the general population out there and all my blog buddies like you are not at all sombong or too proud of themselves, so there is hope for us just yet :D

  30. Come election than he'll be preaching a whole different story as to garner as many votes as possible. All these other "Datuk Ahmad" idiots up there are all one and the same. It's such a disgrace to have people like this as fellow Malaysians.

Anyways, yeah.. like you, I'm glad to know that there are still so many out there who I know are great Malaysians and for that, I'm proud to call my friends.

    ReplyDelete
  31. *sigh* I guess the world has it's share of idiots, though I seem to think a lot of them seem to be centered around here. And I agree with Daniel. Though I wish it wasn't only his Datukship that should be removed.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Shemah - They all preach a whole new line when it comes to garnering votes. That's the time, everyone will become their Malay, Chinese or Indian buddy, after they win, it's a different tune. Politicians, they're all the same!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Haizum - This country is probably the dumping ground for idiots and morons ... LOL!

  34. when i read about this AssH*le 'amad', i was in total shocked too. How come a racist so-called leader can represent the community in Bukit Bendera?? When he uttered that racist remark, how come NO ISA on him?? Oh! don't forget that Pak Lala even say he has the right to voice out his personal opinion??? See if it was other races uttered that remark..*blardy hell betul!!!*

  35. Nick!!! Malas la to talk abt this, I'm just so frustrated and angry with what's going on nowadays! Read newspapers oso takde mood, same old story which is getting worse by the day! Keen to see what happens on Sept 16 though! ;)

  38. Hi Nick, I always have this dream: One day mankind will forget races, colors, religions, wars and everythinf that is bad.
We'll make part of a true human race.
All we are equals is what I should say. :o)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Cidao - I have that same dream too buddy. It's just a handful of these kind of people that makes life difficult for the rest of us, unfortunately they happen to be people with some form of power so like Gypsy said in her comment above, they have a far wider reach!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sigh....nothing oso happened on the 16th ha ha! Now the big thing is supposed to happen on the 18th it seems, oh well! ;)
