A Little Tango & Some Cash ...

How many of you remember this movie Tango and Cash? An old movie starring Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. I was in my teens when that movie came out and I must say that I enjoyed the movie back then. Well, a few weeks back they aired a rerun of this movie on Astro and I had the time of my life watching it again.

Now, while the movie was cheesy and all that with out dated graphics and weird electronics, hairstyles of days gone by, cheesy one liners and loads and loads of violence, it was nonetheless still a great movie to watch simply because it was straight to the point with its good cops wanna get bad guys, bad guys frame good cops and good cops hit back at bad guys storyline.

And the pairing of Stallone and Russell were so perfect that they complemented each other with their macho and tough routine style, typical of movies from that era. Even my two younger boys from this generation was impressed with it that they pleaded to stay up till the movie was over (they get sent to bed early on school nights).

Anyways, that really wasn't what I wanted to blog about. That show brought back memories of me being a superstar, well not really but it sure felt like it. Around the time of that show, I was in my mid teens. Yes, I am that old! Back then you must remember Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell were the who's who in the movie world.

Now, I've been unfortunately told by people that I have some resemblance to Sylvester Stallone. I am not the least bit pleased to be compared to good old Sly Stallone. Why couldn't people say I look like Clive Owen or something. I have nothing against Stallone but look at him la, he isn't exactly one of the most good looking guys in the world you know ... hahaha ...

The one feature that closely resembles him that I have is his way droopy puppy dog eyes and his slightly crooked nose. Oh ya, and back then I sort of had his hairstyle too. And coupled with a pair of Ray-Ban shades, I could have been the spitting image of a younger Stallone.

Well, of course if you ask my two good buddies, they'd probably say I look closer to being the spitting image of an idiot ... LOL ... or even Mat Sentul, an old time local actor for comedies over here. And I'm inclined to agree with them. The Mat Sentul part anyway!

Now one day after the movie had been released for about a week or so, I was in town on one of my usual hangout sessions in one of the malls. Back then I was fashion and style conscious. I was decked in my best clothes and had my hair set ala Sly Stallone. Not that I had a choice when it comes to my hopelessly worthless hair that just cannot be styled any other way.

So there I was cruising the streets of KL, well walking really when these two guys walk past me. Suddenly one of them stops, turns around and calls out,

'Hey Tango!'

I stop walking, look at them, then turn to look behind me to see just who the heck they were referring to when the other guys says,

'You la. You look exactly like Tango from Tango and Cash.'

I was so darn embarassed and if I was fair skinned you would have seen me turn beet red! And they didn't stop there. They walked back to me and started telling me I look exactly like Tango (Sylvester Stallone) from the movie.

They were so animated that people were beginning to stop and look at what was happening. I was afraid they were going to start asking for my autograph or something ... LOL!

I was really turning red from embarrassment and quickly walked or rather ran away from there as fast as I could. Why oh why did they relate me with Stallone la, I mean, I would have preferred it if they went 'hey Tom Cruise, Richard Dean Anderson or maybe even Kurt Russell' but not Stallone of all people.

Any other time I would have been seriously honoured to be associated with a well known celebrity. But somehow being associated with that guy from those First Blood movies just doesn't cut it somehow. But at least it was my five minute of fame ... LOL!

These days, though I still have the droopy eyes and crooked nose, at least my facial structure has sort of shifted away from looking like that Rambo fellow! I wonder if it would shift towards resembling Clive Owen a teeny weeny bit ... hahaha ...

  1. Wah, u look like Mr Sly himself. If I ever had the chance to meet you, I think I couldn't resist the urge to sing the theme song to Rocky! LOL! Can you do his voice? Maybe you can do a really good impersonation right.

  2. Sly Stallone is all too bad. Imagine if people said you looked like a hobbit! Like what I heard a commentator said about one of the participants in a singing contest!

So, you have his big muscles too?

  3. Funnily enough I have often been told I look like the supermodel Helena Christensen. He, he, I am joking of course. I look nothing like her. Sigh. The only resemblance we have is the fact we both have two eyes.

I'm back by the way and catching up on my blog reading. I hope you and your family are well Sly, I mean Clive!

  6. Well, Sly is not too tatty, until he opens his mouth and mumbles most of his lines.
