I Survived ...

... the first day of work! Woohoo!

Yes, today was my first day of work in the new place. It was so unlike your normal starting work in a new office where you normally take a while before you get into the groove of work. The moment I stepped in, we got down right to the business of work. Well, more or less anyway.

I left home early as I needed to gauge the traffic situation. It's been years since I've traveled out of my housing area to work seeing as how my previous place was just 5 minutes away. This new office is no where near my house so I left pretty early to get used to the traffic.

Traffic was light cos of the school holidays and I actually reached work in 28 minutes (28 minutes, really, I kept track of the time ... LOL). I guess I won't really be able to gauge the actual travel time until school reopens again and the full brunt of traffic is on the roads again.

That left me reaching the office pretty early waiting in my car for my boss (who is also an old friend) to arrive. The first thing we did even before heading up to the office was to go to the stall across the office for breakfast and my second cup of coffee for the day (I had one before leaving for work). After that, it was off to meet a client. I didn't even get the chance to get settled in yet.

After meeting the first client of the day, it was time for another coffee session time (my third) at a restaurant near the clients place. From there we headed to another clients place. And immediately after that appointment, it was time for another coffee drinking session, yes, my fourth cup for the day and that was all in the space of 2 hours. What can I say, my boss has this penchant for taking a short break after every appointment for a drink.

By the time the day was over, I think I had close to six or seven coffee drinking sessions that I think I'm going to have major trouble sleeping tonight! LOL! I've never had so much coffee in one day in my entire life. In fact, I never been to so many restaurants in one entire day just to drink! The amount of 'drinking' I did today, adult diapers would have come in handy when we were stuck in traffic and I needed to go real bad!

Overall, I would have to say that it was a pretty cool day for my first day of work. I even got to go home early cos we finished all our work in the office and my boss decided that it would be pointless sitting in the office doing nothing, so we both went home at 5pm even though actual office hours finish at 6pm. Well, the designers in the office didn't have that liberty so it pays having a boss who is also an old friend :D At least we think along the same lines.

The only thing that I really missed about the old office was blogging from work. I did manage to get online and check my blog but didn't really have time to sit and blog as much as I did in my old office. Well, not yet anyway ... hahaha ...

And one more thing that I really missed like crazy was the chance to come home and have lunch with wifey, now that was something not at all easy for me to adapt. I'm so used to seeing and being with her everyday during lunch that it felt strange having lunch without her today. I guess I'll just have to get used to it ... siggghhh ...

Ok, I'm off to all your blogs now :D

  4. That's wonderful that your first day went so well Nick. Don't worry, I'm sure it will be no time at all before you are settled in and blogging from work just as you always have. Now that you don't see wifey during the day, just think how much you will look forward to seeing her after work.

  5. Good to know that you had a good first day. Yes, don't judge the traffic just yet, as today it picked up again.

It takes me 45 minutes to travel from Shah Alam to PJ, when on a clear day, only 20 minutes!

  20. Why in the world when we talk about coffee, it's always associated with trouble sleeping, lol! I guess everyone having this kind of trouble with coffee-drinking. Me, I can only handle one cup a day, and it should be in the day before the weekend, or else...hahaa!

Sad! You're compelled to eat lunch without your wife. But you can call her and talk to her while you are eating. :-)
