The Superstar

I'm not a very musically inclined person. No, let me rephrase that. I'm not all all musically inclined. I can't even tap a decent beat on the table. I can't even hold a tune properly when I sing. I end up sounding like a toad with a bad case of sore throat and half the time people cover their ears and run screaming away from me. LOL!

When I was young, I always envision myself as a lead singer or lead guitarist of this hugely popular rock back or something. I picture myself belting away some number one hit or doing a guitar solo and driving everyone in the audience crazy. Fans screaming and throwing themselves at me. Ok, ok, I had a vivid imagination back then.

But can you blame me? I had a cousin in the same secondary school with me and also staying in the same house who was a year younger and he was the lead singer of a band he and some friends formed. I remember they would be dressed up like some superstar group complete with 5.11 Boots and would do gigs at the school concert or any school events and they'd have the girls fawning and drooling over them.

Not that I wanted girls fawning and drolling over me (not that I would have complained if that happened, mind you ... LOL!) but I just wanted to be able to play some kind of instrument and perform like a rock star in public. You know, with people going around later in school saying things like

'Hey, is that the lead guitarist of that band?' or 'Whoa look, it's Nick, the lead singer of that highly popular band!'

Like I said, I had a vivid imagination back in those days. And I was kinda jealous of my cousin too. I'd remember his friends would come over sometimes and they'd all kinda practice at home with their guitars and start singing and I'd just watch them enviously hoping they'd at least make me a back up singer or something, though with my voice, it'd be a cold day in hell before that happened! LOL!

I'm sure we've all had our fair share of envy and fantasies in our lifetime. Maybe seeing a friend or relative that was hugely popular and good in doing something and secretly envious of that person. Well, after numerous, maybe even thousands of people telling me what a horrible voice I have, my hope of being the next Simon Le Bon, Peter Cetera or even R. Kelly has diminished considerably these days ... hehehe ...

But my dream of playing some kind of musical instrument is still as strong as ever. And it may even come true pretty soon if I can convince wifey to either get me this wonderful piece of musical instrument or even letting me by it for myself. I spotted this instrument at this hypermart and everytime we're there I NEVER fail (to the amusement of the shoppers and the embarrassment of wifey) to take it and belt out a few instrumental numbers on it.

Here, what do you think? Do you think wifey should buy this nice toy drum for me and start me on my musical career as a bongo player so that I can fulfill my fantasy of being some rock star or not? ROTFL!

  4. I think we all had dreams of being a rock superstar, I know I did! :-P

As for the drums, be careful, else the National Fatwa council will ban drums as they could pose a threat to islam since it's a little tribal. :-)
