Just in case any of you are wondering whether I've lost the passion to blog, well not really. I've just been so busy (and also a little lazy) the past week that I don't even have time to write a post. I barely manage to squeeze in some blog hopping sessions here and there. The last time I wrote a post here was almost a week ago, which is a record of sorts for me ... hehehe ...
I do have so free time right now so I though maybe I'd squeeze in a short (like as if that will ever happen) post here so people will know I'm still alive in blogland ... hahaha ... I used to be able to write a post almost everyday but ever since I've started working here, the frequency of my postings have dropped considerably. I guess the fact that I have two other blogs to keep updated is also part of the culprit.
Yeah, I am crazy to have more than one blog. The first time I ever started blogging, I thought people who had more than one blog were a little loose in the head. Taking care of just one blog is crazy enough. But then, being the ever smart aleck and slightly insane person that I am, I went and created two more blogs and now I'm going crazy trying to keep them all up to date, albeit very unsuccessfully I must say ... LOL!
On a different note entirely, how many of you guys remember the ice lollies you used to suck on in school? You know the kind. The one where you get various flavors in this plastic, urrrrmmm, tube (for want of a better word). The ones where you find the ice cream man outside your school selling when you finish school. The kind where every kid would flock to cos it was cheap and it was just what you needed for a nice hot afternoon while you wait for your school bus to pick you up.
I'm sure all you guys and gals too would have at some point of your school life bought a few of these ice lollies. I know I did. I never failed to get one the moment I finished school. Back then they cost only 5 to 10 cents. It was just basically coloured water of various flavors that's been frozen solid and you'd bite a small hole in the plastic tube and suck on them normally to the point of tastelessness cos the darns things really were of low quality and I think the production methods were a little questionable. But being a kid you just couldn't be too bothered and simply couldn't resist them.
Well, they still do have them being sold outside schools to this very day by those darn ice cream vendors with their junk food adorning their motorbikes or side cars. Half the things they sell are really not fit for consumption, I should know, I actually checked the stuff they sell. Most of it are really low quality junk food and this ice lolly happens to be one of them.
Unfortunately my younger boy just loves buying junk from them on his way back from school and the ice lolly happens to be on his list of favorites too. Like I said, him being a kid and all that, he's not too concerned about the cleanliness and quality of these ice lollies. Well, I am and so I decided to start making him my own homemade ice lollies which I know for a fact is all that much cleaner with boiled and cleaned water and proper juices instead of just coloring to get the flavoring and all that.
I must say my experiment with it turned out really good. The boys loved it and wifey also loved it that she grabbed one even before the boys got their hands on it the moment it hardened in the freezer ... LOL! Well, to be honest, we both grabbed one that very night and ran into our rooms and like little kids kids gleefully feasted upon it giggling away while sitting on the wood flooring ... hahaha ... I don't think the boys would have been too pleased if they knew we were feasting on ice lollies while they were asleep.
All I know is the next day by the time I got home, there were none left and I made quite a bit even. Wifey said the younger fellow happily kept on having one after another. He just loved it so much that he kept of requesting for more :D Well, so far I've experimented with orange, chocolate malt and also Mocha flavored ones and they turned out pretty tasty. Well, the Mocha one was a tad bitter but just great to have on a hot blistering afternoon.
I wonder what a beer flavored ice lolly would taste like ... LOL!
.
Hell yeah! I used to LOVE the Asam Boi! It was called Aiskrim Malaysia! LOL! I blogged about this in March 2007! :-D

Terra Shield - Oh, they still do exist :D
ReplyDeletei love them too, especially the ones with the asam boi inside! They're especially good when waiting for parents outside the school on a hot sunny day. heheeh!
ReplyDeleteIf you use orange or fruit juice they are a healthy snack. I make something like those for my kids in the summer time too.
ReplyDeleteOh tell me about it!
ReplyDeleteI still buy this ice lolly myself too.
One of my colleagues who stay inside the school compound makes this ice lolly every day and sell to the students (his wife does it actually). When the day is quite hot than usual or when I have extra class until 4pm with my students, I usually ask one of them to buy a plastic of the ice lollies so that everyone in the class can enjoy at least one ice lolly each. :)
I love the Milo flavoured ice lolly.
During school days, I remember seeing a lot of children buying those ice lollies from hawkers outside school compound. But I never did try cos I heard they made those ice lollies from 'air longkang'!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if that's true or I was told like that so that I won't dare buy them! : )
Btw, I still think bloggers with more than 1 blog is a little loose on the head, including you. Haha!
I know the ones you mean! I've sucked on many!
ReplyDeleteWow, you made your own? I expect they tasted better, not to mention healthier.
Sounds like the younger fella liked them!
hahaha.. I remember those very well! it was one of my fav too and I used to suck till only the ice was left and then make my own flavor!
ReplyDeleteYum Yum! Babe's aunt used to make really nice sour ones! Thinking about it just makes me drool!!
ReplyDeleteNick, I have a really cool tag for u, come see! :)

ReplyDeleteTammy - I agree with you :D I'm gonna try all kinds of flavors soon ... hehehe ...
ReplyDeleteCarol - You do? LOL! What flavor they sell these days, ah?
ReplyDeleteWah, cool teacher la you. I wish my teacher was like you when I was in school ... hehehe ...
Foongpc - Air longkang ... hahaha ... well, to be honest, it did taste like drain water at times :D
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you on people with more than one blog being a little loose in the head, including me ... hehehe ...
The World According To Me - Yeah, I made my own :D No complains from the little fellow so I guess it tasted good ... hehehe ...
ReplyDeleteSting - Yeah, you can suck on them till they become tasteless ... hehehe ...
ReplyDeleteJen - The asam boi ones you mean? Those can make anyone drool la ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteMarzie - Cool? How can a tag be cool? LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'll come over check it out :D
I've created two more blogs, too, I don't why when I don't even have enough time for my Potpourri blog.
ReplyDeleteLol! In the Phil. we call that ice candy. And I love the one with the real avocado. It's tastes like avocado ice cream.
Marlene - LOL! Same here, I don't even know why I really created 3 blogs when I don't even have time for this one!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried it with avocado though.
Ooooo I could use one now oh! I have bad food cravings at the mo. No I am not pregnant. Hahaha Apparently I have the "glow" tho cos someone recently asked me if I was. Hahahahaha
ReplyDeleteRozella - You sure or not you not pregnant? LOL! But hey, to be honest, I could use an ice lolly right about now too :D And let us know if it's a boy or a girl, ya? Hahaha ...
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha Rozie preggers would mean that I could fly. Screw the pigs. LOL!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, it's great that you managed to keep that childhood "essentials" for your sons in a healthier and cleaner way. I mean, that's what made us happy back in the day so I don't see why we should refrain our kids from experiencing our joys during childhood.
I used to love these too! :) :) Beer popsicles?? uhmmm.. i wouldn't know! LOL! Go try it out lah! LOL!
Shemah - Hahaha ... Well, if I see you flying means that Rozella is pregnant la ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, but sometimes the stuff they sell these days are really of low quality so I figured I might as well make my own so the boys don't miss out on the 'good' stuff :D
You know, I just might try those beer popsicles this weekend ... LOL!
