Where's My Change?

The school holidays are here and for wifey it's the same old 'how to keep the boys entertained' dilemma. Those two are pretty active and the younger fellow especially has an uncanny ability to set her off ... LOL! He does it without even trying hard.

And with the holidays also comes another problem of keeping them fed all the time. My younger boy has another uncanny ability of being hungry all the time when he's home and he tends to finish everything in the fridge in a matter of moments. He reminds me of myself when I was young. I could never stop eating ... LOL!

Anyways, we ran out of bread this morning. Normally wifey would just call me and ask me to buy a loaf on the way home and I'll grab one from the sundry shop near my office. But today was a little different cos the boys were complaining of having nothing to eat, this was just after their breakfast.

Since I couldn't do anything about it until I get home, wifey decided to send them to the 7-11 just across the road from our place. I must say that it's the first time we've ever let them go out to the 7-11 across the road on their own. Normally the furthest we let them go on their own is when they walk to school which is also just across the road, much nearer than the 7-11 is located or when the go to the park in the evenings. In this day and age you can't be too careful.

So this morning the little fellow was as usual complaining there was nothing to eat and at the risk of hearing his non-stop grumbling wifey gave both of them money and told them to go to the 7-11 and get a loaf of bread and then head right back home with the change. And there should have been lots of change but according to her when they came back, all they had was just 65 cents!

I laughed and told her you should never give money to a kid to buy something and expect any change back ... LOL! She was lucky to even get 65 cents worth of change. Those two little fellows decided to go on a nice shopping spree at 7-11 and came home with huge Slurpee's and whatnots. I found it amusing cos I would have done the very same thing ... hahaha.

I mean how can you as a kid resist the goodies of a 7-11 and not having anyone to supervise you at that. Like I said, it's a good thing they even brought back 65 cents. I would have had no change left. I used to do the same thing too when I was a kid.

We used to live right across a sundry shop and my mom would ask me to buy stuff like sugar, bread and best weight loss pills for her from the shop and to bring back the change but she'd be lucky if I even used the money to buy the stuff she asked for let alone bring back change. Most of the time, I'd be happily coming home with and ice-cream or two in my hands and when she asked for her change, I'd give her this what change look? Can't you see the goodies I bought for myself? Surely you don't think they'd be change now did you? LOL!

Little boys, a shop full of goodies and money don't mix very well, especially when no one is there to stop you from having a shopping fest :D The next time she ever asks them to go buy something I'm sure she'll give them exact change ... LOL! But I must say I'm proud of them for actually going out on their own that far to buy stuff. The first signs of independence in the making.
