Seeing as how Christmas is just four days away, it would be inevitable that my selection this week would be for a Christmas song :D Actually it was more or less inspired by the caroling session that I went for with my best buddy, Adrian last week.
He's been trying to get me in the Christmas mood and after following him and his caroling group for two days I started listening to my collection of Christmas songs which I've been listening to since then.
When it comes to Christmas songs, I'm one of those that go for the old traditional Christmas songs from people like Jim Reeves, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis. I'm not all that keen with the current day version of Christmas songs. I mean who else can even do justice to 'The Christmas Song' other than Nat King Cole himself? That's why when it comes to Christmas songs, I stick to the oldies.
But then, every now and then, a new Christmas song pops up that I simply love. One of them happens to be Mariah Carey's 'All I want for Christmas is you'. I simply, absolutely, positively love that song to the max when I first heard it all those years ago, in 1994 if I'm not mistaken. The first time I heard it, I fell in love with it so much so that I went out the next day and bought her Christmas album. In fact, I loved the entire album but that song was on my all time Christmas favourites list.
And no, I'm NOT featuring that song for my Music Monday. Keeping in line with my theme of featuring unique and unheard of songs, I'm going to feature another song with the same title (All I want for Christmas is you) by Vince Vance and The Valiants, a country pop and rock and roll musical group from New Orleans, Louisiana.
It was a Christmas hit single in 1989 and it's an equally beautiful song. It was sung by the then lead singer of the group, Lisa Layne. I also fell in love with it the first time I heard it all those years ago, which was why I initially thought Mariah did a cover of their song until I actually heard her version of it, which was entirely different.
Both of the songs, by Mariah and Vince Vance, are worlds apart but I absolutely love both versions. Here, take a listen and let me know what you think?
PS: Because of spamming purposes, the linky will be closed on Thursday of each week at midnight, Malaysian Time. Thank you!
