There I was still fresh from my ordeal with the backing up sewage when wifey suddenly turns to me and says,
'Honey, I've been thinking about studying again.'
I stop spraying perfume on my arms to mask the smell of sewage (yes, the smell of sewage is still lingering around me) and look at her with this puzzled look.
'You want to study again? Good God, why?' I ask her.
She looks at me with an annoyed look and says that it's been lingering at the back of her mind to continue studying. After all, the moment she finished her secondary school she did go out into the working world right away and then marriage and kids came into the picture which put her dreams of studying again on the back burner.
Let me get one thing straight, I don't think I could ever go back to studying but I'm always supportive of what she wants to do. But then she's worried about the boys and who would look after them if she goes back to studying. After all, I'm not always home during office hours.
She has a point there. Though the boys can take care of themselves but we're always skeptical with them being on their own. After all, boys will be boys and for my younger boy, getting into mischief is his specialty :D Then there is the financial issue. We're not exactly rich people and going back to school can be a costly affair.
But I don't want to curb her dreams so I suppose the is a way she can achieve this by doing some distance learning and looking for an online university. I know a few friends of mine who enrolled for distance learning courses and it worked out just fine for them. That way she can study from home and look after the boys as well which would put both our minds at ease.
There are many online universities out there and Western Governors University is a pretty good one. It’s non-profit and more affordable than other online universities. It’s also a fully accredited online education institution. What's better is that I heard they have a pretty cool online nursing degree which sounds good cos then wifey can put on a nursing outfit and administer some 'nursing' to me ... LOL!
But jokes aside, if she really wants to study again, I'll be behind her all the way. As for me, I swore on the last day when I finally finished school that I would NEVER be saddled with homework again and I'm going to keep it that way!
.
I, too, thought I would never ever go back to school, but here I am...a full-time college student at age 41. I'm a statistic of the high unemployment rate, so along with many other people my age, I decided to go back to school and round out my skills in the administrative/office managament field. I'm just getting a diploma in Accounting which only takes about 1 1/2 years to obtain. I don't pay a dime for tuition, and I get $100 to apply towards books. Financial assistance is readily available. I'm glad you'll be supporting your wife if she decides to go back to school. It also keeps the brain active and cob-web free in our aging years! ;)
ReplyDeleteVicki - I don't know, I have this fear about going back to school. I don't see myself coming home and having homework to do ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteBut if she wants to study, I'll back her all the way, just as long as she doesn't ask me to help with her homework ... LOL!
Bud...It's a good thign that she wants to do! Trust me I know I never wanted to touch a book again and there I went and did my Masters. Of course I had to rope in wifey or I would have dropped out for sure LOL By the way I'll be graduating pretty soon and after that you can just call me Master LOL
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, give wifey a thumbs up from me ok!! :)
Cheers! :)
Zaini had always been supportive about me furthering my studies because he said I am smarter than him, but I loath studying as much as doing assignments. :D
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your wife!
Support from the family is definitely important.
ReplyDeleteI think that's pretty cool... and when wifey + kids are all doing homework together, you might actually want to jump in the bandwagon too!
ReplyDeleteLOL @ the nursing course :P
ReplyDeleteI think i am too lazy to get back to study...dont think i can sit through 1-2 hours lecture without dozing off anymore.
I'm sure she'll do great! Good luck to Mrs Spiff :)
ReplyDeleteNursing course? hahahhaa.. nursing outfit too? *LOL*
Adrian - I still think you were out of your mind for wanting to study again ... LOL! I've had enough of books and homework.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, a thumbs up to wifey and if she's really serious, I'll back her all the way :D
Master, huh? Don't make me come there and smack you boy! LOL!
Lina - Ah, someone who hates studying too :D At least I'm not alone in this world ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteLina - Yes, when you have support from your loved ones, it makes things go so much easier :D
ReplyDeleteTerra - Me join in the bandwagon and do homework? That's the days cows will sprout wings and fly ... hahaha!
ReplyDeleteXin - Nursing outfits nice what! LOL!
ReplyDeleteYup, I'd probably doze off too that is if I even attend classes ... LOL!
Anny - I'm sure she will too :D And I'll back her all the way just don't ask me for help with her homework, cukup ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteLike I told Xin above, nursing outfits nice what ... hahaha!
Hey it's never too late to continue study. Sometimes we'd like it and perform better than before. I'm glad you'll support your WIFEY's decision.
ReplyDeleteI've been toying with the same idea too for the past few months. Thanks for the info on the online university. Time to dig up further info ... who knows I might just end up as your WIFEY's course mate. :)
i know i will still want to continue study. I just dunno when. :)
ReplyDeleteWenny - I notice it's the women folk who really like studying again. I guess most of us men are just glad to leave school ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteCarol - You're a teacher so I'm sure you'll always love studying ... hehehe ...
ReplyDeleteI think because of the reasons you stated in this post, your wife would be better off enrolling in an online university. And some of them are VERY GOOD and quite reputable.
ReplyDeleteMeleah - I think so too, at least she can be around to keep an eye on things at home :D
ReplyDeleteAnimo, no te desanimes sigue adelante!
ReplyDeleteJulia Letran - Urmmm, I translated your comment and it came out as 'I animate, you are not discouraged follows ahead!' ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteI don't even know if that is correct!
Exactly!
ReplyDeleteMeleah - Amen to that :D
