A Malaysian Obsession

I was reading in the papers this afternoon about some series of sky diving stints in the north pole by a group of Malaysians from a political party trying to break some record or something and it got me thinking that people in Malaysia spend money on absolutely nonsensical issues just to be in some record book. The highest, biggest, longest, tallest this and that. It's an obsession with people here. For me, I think the money involved in trying to get in the record books could be used for more important and necessary issues (there's just too many to list here). Don't get me wrong, I love living here in Malaysia and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else (well, maybe in Scotland perhaps... hehehe) but I can't for the life of me see what significance there is in organising a jump in the north pole for some 'Mat Rempits' (Illegal motorcycle racers)? My beloved said maybe they should organize a jump into a volcano to see if they can get in the records books for the longest time spent in a raging volcano and I'm inclined to agree with her on that :) I'm actually looking forward to seeing what other nonsensical record breaking feat they're gonna think of next. Malaysia Boleh :)

  2. Nick, you did say "Political Party" right? I wouldn't mind paying front seat tickets if the Democrats (or the Republicans) take a leap into the (any) volcano ......
