The Wedding.

The Wedding day finally came and it was over in a flash but boy, what a BLAST it was :) My wife, the kids and myself thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it from start to end. By the time we finally reached home early this morning, we were all so whacked out from all the fun that sleep came easy. In fact as I write this post my younger boy is still sound asleep in bed. He's normally the one that wakes up the earliest on weekends but not today ... hehehe ...

The day started out with the church ceremony in the afternoon, which only my younger son and me attended. The elder boy had some classes on Saturday and so wifey had to stay home and wait for him to get back. A funny thing happened before the service started. I reached the church with my younger boy around 11.25am, the service was supposed to start at 12.00am (or so I thought). When I walked into the church, there was another wedding that was going on. I went like ...

'oh, oh, don't tell me I'm at the wrong church'

I panicked and called wifey and asked her to check the wedding card for the church details. The thing is my wife couldn't find the card. I couldn't wait any longer, time was running out if I was at the wrong church. So, I tried calling Genie King (I wasn't gonna call Seansy and admit that I went to the wrong church on his wedding day ... LOL), but Genie Kings phone was not switched on! I decided to just drive to his house, which was like 3 minutes away from the church and thankfully he was home. And that's when I found out it was the correct church but the service was only supposed to start at 12.30pm! Damn, I was there too bloody early ... hehehe ... phew!

The service went without a hitch, was feeling kinda sentimental throughout the whole service for my buddy Seansy. It was really a day I was waiting for to finally see him tie the knot. In fact there was this memorable Kodak moment when Seansy actually cried while hugging his mom (We've never in our 23 years of friendship seen him cry, ever!) He looked dashing in his wedding suit and his bride looked beautiful in her wedding dress (Genie King might post some pix of this on his blog later)

After the service, went back home, took a short nap and then dressed up and got ready to go for the wedding reception which was held in a hotel in the city. It rained earlier so the weather was nice and cool and we reached there a little early. I like to be punctual for events, unlike the rest of the population of Malaysia who thinks it's fashionable to be late for events!

By the time I reached the hotel, I was getting even more nervous about the speech. I was practically hyperventilating at times, so was Genie King ... LOL! With the arrival of the Bride and Groom, the dinner proper started. The ballroom was so elegantly decorated that it looked a little fairy tale like even, with lots of white wedding flowers beautifully placed all around. They were Gerberas, according to wifey cos it was her favourite flowers. I couldn't tell the difference though ... hehehe ...

While the food started being served we were told that the speeches would start somewhere after the fourth course and that put the fear of god in me ... hehehe ... and worse yet, our turn was directly after this popular ex-radio celebrity DJ cum actor called Patrick Teoh, who is one of Seansy's bosses (Sean works in a advertising production house here) and both Genie King and me looked at each other and went ...

'Are they kidding us? After Patrick Teoh, we're gonna look like school kids giving speeches'

Man, and you should have heard Patrick Teoh's speech. It was going to be an impossible act to follow. He didn't even have a prepared script and he had the crowd in stitches! I was really hyperventilating by this time to the point my wife said ...

'don't worry honey, just go there and do your best ...'

Well, our turn finally came and I was a bundle of nerves, I practically rushed through my parts, even to the point of cutting the speech shorter. Genie King did a better job than me I think. Phew, I was relived when it was finally over. It was like this great big burden had been removed from my shoulders. I was totally disappointed with my speech though, I could have done much better than that. I really did the best I could but nerves got the better of me. Sorry for not being better support during the speech buddy.

After the speech episode put behind me, the rest of the night was a blast :) As usual with all Eurasian weddings, dancing was soon to follow. We even had 'Tom Jones' perform live, seriously, 'Tom Jones' you know. Well, he's Sean's uncle and he's the Malaysian Tom Jones :) It was really fun getting to hear 'Tom Jones' belting out his hits (ok, I'll admit, I am a Tom Jones fan!)

The dance floor soon beckoned out to us and me and wifey along with Genie King and his wife soon stepped out onto the dance floor and danced the night away :) Gosh I haven't danced like that it ages and soon I was gasping for breath ... LOL! I was seriously waiting for the sentimental numbers to start so I could get close and personal with wifey ... hehehe ... but unfortunately the DJ's had this often bad selection of fast numbers. I don't even think they had any slow numbers with them. Drats! Eventually there was one song that was a little slower (but not much) in tempo that wifey and me managed to squeeze in a few minutes of cuddling up on the dance floor :D But the night was thoroughly fun!

Even our two boys had fun. Our elder boy was on the dance floor with us showing his stuff and he was so much more energetic than anyone on the dance floor and he was the youngest on the floor seeing as how he was only 12 years old! LOL! He enjoyed himself dancing around with us. The younger fellow was somewhere running around and playing with Sean's nephew that he didn't care about anything.

The saying 'time flies when you're having fun' sure rings true because the night came to a conclusion eventually. The drive home was long cos we were all tired. But overall, everyone had fun, that was the key word. And Seansy, here's to you and your wife. May you guys have a lifelong happy married life :)

  15. Man, that sounds like fun! dancing and all... I love attending weddings...all the good vibes and great fun!

It must be nerve wrecking giving speeches. The last wedding that I attended, because of the Korean guests, our friend the emcee had to do part of his speech in Korean... it was funny cos he was nervous and probably didn't pronounce the Korean parts properly (though he practised so hard).. I doubt any Korean guest understood a word he said.
