Goodbye To The Old, Hello To The New ...

First of all a very Happy and Blessed New Year to all my my visitors, new and old :D I wish you guys nothing but the best in all that you do. May peace, joy and happiness fall upon you. May the gods of prosperity fill you with tons of money for 2008. Ok, ok enough with that already ... LOL! Just remember to send some money my way if that god of prosperity does indeed decided to dump a landfill full of cash in your back yard or something :D

The New Year for me was ushered in watching a marathon of X-men movies last night. I've watched those movies before but how could I not watch it for the zillionth time again especially when they were screening the whole trilogy at one go last night! Actually, it really didn't seem like the old year was ending and a new one was beginning. It felt like any old Monday night to me. Maybe it's cos I'm way past the partying mode. What to do, old fogeys like me don't party no more. We just sit home, laze in front of the TV with a beer can in hand and vegetate away ... ahhh, now that's life ... hehehe ...

I did take a bath right after New Year though. It's kind of a tradition for me to bathe just after midnight. Nothing really associated to bathing at midnight though. It's just something that was passed down by generations in my family to take bath after midnight on New Years day to kinda symbolically wash away the old years bad luck and start the New Year clean and fresh. I'm not really one who believes in such things but I don't know why I still practice this tradition though. Who knows, maybe there might be some truth in it and better safe than sorry ... LOL! I'm sure there are loads of traditions like these practiced the world over. What about you guys? Do you have any such tradition or taboos? Tell me about it, sure would love to know if there are other weirdos like me out there ... LOL!

Today was just spent preparing the kids stuff for school tomorrow. Woke up pretty late today, took wifey and the boys for breakfast, then came home and started looking into the kids stuff for school. Had a lot of ironing to do cos all the boys school clothes were new and had lots of folding lines on it. And boy, ironing brand new shirts and pants can be quite a task.

The ironing of the boys clothes are my responsibility cos wifeys in charge of the washing and drying. Besides she can't iron for nuts! LOL! Sorry hon, but that's the honest to goodness truth :D We share most of our responsibilities at home and that's just the way we like it :) With the ironing out of the way, I'm left with some time to update my blogs a little and that was after dragging wifey away from the laptop ... LOL!

The rest of the day is going to be spent vegetating in bed or something but before I head off, let me tell you what happened to my missing neighbours. Boy, what happened to them is so shocking it would make your skin crawl. You probably wouldn't believe such things still happen in this day and age. I'm still not sure I believe it even now. Such tragedy, such a despicable act!

I think you guys know that one of my neighbours just upped and disappeared before Christmas and no one even knew they moved, not even their immediate next door neighbour. It's a huge undertaking moving house without anyone knowing. They even took all their platform beds with them! I was so set on finding out what happened to them and faced lots of dead ends regarding their disappearance. I was at wits end figuring out what to do next.

But wifey was way better at me in this investigative game than I am. She went and asked my mom. You see, my mom is like the neighbour bulletin centre. She knows everything that goes on in this neighbourhood. And the answer was so simple yet it still sends a shock wave through me.

They just moved because they bought a new and bigger house and sold the old one! Yes, they just moved people ... LOL! Nothing sinister happened to them at all, no conspiracy theories and such. Damn, and here I was expecting something like maybe they were kidnapped and made sacrificial lambs or something ... LOL! Ohhh, all those days spent thinking up various reasons of what happened to them all boils down to them moving to a bigger house! Siggghhhh, maybe I should cut back on watching too much CSI's on TV for this year. I'm sure you guys had some sinister thoughts too, didn't you? Come on, admit it already ... LOL!

Well, I better vacate this laptop soon cos wifey is lurking around behind me waiting her turn to do some of her assignments. LOL! Ok, ok honey, I'm outta here already ... hehehe .... Happy 2008 folks :D

  1. Hahahaha.. and I thought they were under some witness protection program for ousting some head Mafia or something. :D How did they move out in a single night, anyway?? Maybe all they took was their bed and plasma tv. LOL!

Wow, soon it's going to be a hectic time for parents huh? What with school and all.. My kid sis is gonna have one helluva hard time waking up early. I so do not envy her.

And what do you know??? I totally forgot about the XMen trilogy last night!! Darn!! After dinner, we went out for a joyride around town and it totally slipped my mind. HMPH!

OH well, sorry for the long comment. Long posts deserve long comments. Hehehehe.. Hope you and your family have a great year this 2008. More happiness, health and wealth!!

p/s: My husband says almost the same thing to me.. that I can't iron to save my life!! LOL!

Actually I could.. he's just fussy!! Bree Van De Kamp fussy!!

  2. Chey! So they just moved to a bigger house? Maybe they need every single thing to fill up the big new space.

I think the midnight bathing is a good tradition in the tropics but can you imagine someone bathing in the freezing winter night? Ouch!

Happy New year! I'm also busy nagging at the kids to pack their bags, not to sleep too late etc

  4. I think it's a universal thing that women all can't and hate ironing... coz i can't and hate it too!! I always choose the non-iron clothes as well so much so that whenever I go shopping, i purposely squeeze the material to see how bad it crease...hhehhehe... don't tell on me ya!...lolzz

What type of people move in the middle of the night?? What movers they use man??..

No bathing after midnight tradition for me Nick. In fact my mom would scream if I shower anytime anytime dusk!...

Happy New Year Nick to you and your family..

  5. Happy New Year!

So your neighbours aren't hiding under the floor boards, they just moved!
Next time I decide to move, I might ask them to assist. It seems they moved in record time, with minimum noise and fuss! Not many people can do that!

  6. First of all, thousands of apologies for missing out on a lot of your posts. I haven't been a good blogger friend. Sorry Nick! So with that said, I'll make it my new year's resolution to come by and comment on your blog more often! LOL!

    Happy New Year Nick!! :D

  7. Hi Nick!! I also make many New Year resolutions that I fail to keep :( This year I have a list as well, and I will try to keep up with it :)

  8. Shemah - That is still what's bugging me. I cannot for the life of me fathom how they moved away so silently. I'm still going to stick with some conspiracy theory that they're aliens and had this teleportation device to move all their stuff away quietly and in one single night! LOL!

No worries about long comments, always welcomed, shows you have lots to say ... hahaha ...

I actually don't really love ironing but I do a much better job than wifey ... LOL!

  9. BT - LOL! what a turn off ya? There I was expecting some nice juicy conspiracy theory and they just simply moved!

You have a point there about the tradition, but I'm sure some of them have some other kind of tradition to greet the New Year, well, at least I'd like to think so anyway.

Oh, tell me about nagging at the kids to get ready for school. They're still in this holiday mood!

  12. Lady Java - Really? All women hate ironing? Well, that explains it ... LOL! So you're the culprit who leaves all those crinkled clothes on the racks in malls, huh? LOL!

Oh, my next task is to find out the name of their movers, might just come in handy one fine day ... hahaha ...

Happy New Year to you too.

  18. Hi Nick! I am enjoying your post very very very much! One of the few blogs with lost posting and few pic that I really have fun reading!

By the way, we don't have the tradition to bath at midnight of new year. Instead, my family have the tradition to bath for the eve of Chinese New Year so that we can greet the new Chinese Year with clean body, heart & soul. So your tradition is not silly at all ^_^

    Happy New 2008 Year!

p.s. I wish to have no 2008 resolution but I have to~ Gona get married end of this year, so I need to get rid of those babyfat...hehe
