The Michelin Boy.

Gee, they should have also declared today a public holiday seeing as how yesterday was a holiday and it's Friday and I have nothing much to do today, it's just a waste of time having to get up, shower and then come to the office. Oh wait, I can blog all day. LOL! Or at least get a chance to complete as many outstanding assignments as possible. I could do it tomorrow but I plan to spend the whole Saturday vegetating and growing roots at home ... hehehe ... As you can probably tell with all the laughing and giggling I'm doing that I'm in a much better mood than I was on Wednesday. What one days holiday can do for ones mood.

I'm actually pretty hungry right now but it's still a long way to go before lunch time. Wifey and me are actually trying to cut down on our food intake and we made a deal to also cut down on our lunch dates this year. Yes, we do have lunch dates every day, unless of course I'm stuck with an appointment or something. But today, I'm going to renegade on that deal and grab her and go somewhere for lunch later. Maybe some good old banana leaf rice meal or something.

I work really close by to my home and it's easy for me to always head home for lunch. Sometimes I do buy something on the way back and sometimes we go out for lunch depending on our mood and also the weather and I so look forward to these lunch dates with wifey. It's also just the right time to send one of my boys to school cos he's in the afternoon session. Thats one thing I love about working so close to home. You can bum off easily ... LOL!

Anyway, speaking about food, yesterday wifey made a comment about our room beginning to look like a mini bakery. And that's all because of our daily consumption of bread at home. You see, my kids, well my younger boy at least, can go through a loaf of bread like it was water. In fact that boy is perpetually hungry! He's always eating. Imagine this, he'll have dinner when he gets home from school around 6.30 pm or so. Then when wifey and me, who normally eats later, around 7.30pm, he'll come to the dinner table and say he's hungry again and starts pinching all our food. And it doesn't stop there. A hour later, he'll go to the kitchen and start making sandwiches or whatever he can gets his hands on.

We used to buy one loaf of bread that would last say for about 3, maybe even 4 days sometimes. But now, we can go through 2 loaves of bread in 2 days! That's how much that boy can eat. So you can imagine how much bread we buy everyday that we have to hoard it in our room. We have at least 2 loaves on standby always and we can't leave it out in the kitchen cos it'll disappear in a flash! We sort of like control the bread supply in the kitchen ... hehehe ...

He's like a little Tyrannosaurus Rex of something. Well, he's not so little anymore, especially around his waist. He's now more like a mini Michelin boy! He wasn't like this before. He used to be such a scrawny little fellow and he ate very little. He's a hyperactive little chap who can't sit still for one minute without being up to mischief. Wifey and me call him brat boy or Calvin (of the Calvin & Hobbes comic book character) cos he's exactly like that Calvin character minus Hobbes. I remember when he was a little fellow of 2 years old, he'd eat only one or two spoons of food and he'd be full already. Wifeys term for it was, he eats like a bird. Now, I could feed him two whole buffaloes and he'd still be hungry.

This all actually started during the recently concluded school holidays, that's when he started binging on food all day. Since then he's put on quite a lot of weight and his waistline increased considerably. We had to buy him a completely whole new set of school uniforms when he started school cos he couldn't even fit into any of the old ones! Well, good thing school has started cos now he can't eat every second of the day and maybe he'll lose some of that fat around his waist ... hehehe ... But he's an active little fellow and now that school is on again, he'll probably be active with his activities and I'm also getting him registered for martial arts training soon that I guess he'll go back to his original scrawny self in no time. Otherwise wifey and me are just going to have to keep all the food under lock and key ... LOL! He just might eat us out of the house!

Then again maybe I'll just get an elliptical trainer for myself and he can join me training on it, seeing as how I need to lose that holiday fat which I gained the past month.

'Yeah, yeah Nick, blame it all on the holidays, it's just so you to make up excuses for being a lazy pig!'

Oh man, you're back already? Thought you disappeared for good. Damn, I knew things were going too good to be true!

  1. So cute. I'm trying to imagine your little boy eating bread. My younger son used to be skinny and hyperactive, now he's big and round too. He doesn't eat that much but loves to drink milk!

  2. BT - That boy can eat like a horse la. He just loves putting all kinds if stuff in his bread, things like sugar, condensed milk, milo, etc, etc, etc. Sometimes he takes just a wee bit too much that wifey had to scold him before he stops.

  3. I can relate to your son's cravings for food. I used to be just like him when I was a boy. Now I don't have the appetite to eat all that much.

    Great weekend to you, mate!

  4. Andy - I used to be like him too but the difference was I could eat and not gain a single pound, unlike now. LOL!

Great weekend to you too ...

  6. Kee Yit - I wish my son didn't want to eat every single second. I'll go broke soon sustaining his eating habits ... LOL!

  7. Hi Nick,
Michelin boy! So cute!! But I guess I can understand your concern (not only in term of $$). My babe's nephew was also like that when he was around 4-7y.o. Constantly looking for food. But now that he start primary 1, seems to have slow down slightly. The mom was also concerned as overly overweight will mean health problem. Perhaps your son just need some physical activities to keep him occupied. So, the martial arts training probably is a good idea.
p.s. But aint he so so so nice to hug now!!! hahaha...

  8. Jen's Place - Yeah, I think it was the inactivity during the school holidays that turned him into a ravenously hungry little boy ... LOL!

I'm sure once he starts all his activities again, he'll be fine again.

    Great weekend to you.

  9. I think I definitely need to go on a healthy eating plan. I have managed to pile on about 4 kilos in the past two months and if I'm not careful, that 4 will become 10. I hate dieting especially when I have already had to give up smoking.

  10. Gypsy - Trying to lose weight has got to be something I've been trying to do for ages but just fail miserably at it. I just love to eat, that's my big problem, I guess my younger fellow picked it up from me ... LOL!

Here's wishing you a great weekend.

  11. How I wish I could have lunch with hubby from time to time. We don't work very far from each other but if we had to walk all the way to my or his office the whole hour would be wasted. But then, we can meet up on the way...not a bad idea actually...I will skype him to see what he thinks of having lunch in a place close to both offices :) Thanks for the idea! :)

    Have a lovely weekend!

  12. Eat bread with sugar, condensed milk, milo? That is so me! They are better than butter, fruit jam and kaya.

My mother in-law sure would like to have a grand son like yours. Kids binging food every minute is nothing wrong, her say. LOL!

  13. Hi

I love bread, you can't beat a cheese sandwich! But I have to be careful I don't over do the wheat and dairy as I'll be a Michelin woman in no time!

That's sweet that you and wifey have lunch dates. When I read your blogs I always think it sounds like you have a great relationship.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Don't forget to lock the food away!

  14. We go through a loaf of bread a day here too. There is something about peanut butter sandwiches that the kids love. They are constantly eating them.

  15. Nick, your job is so accessible to your home that you can head for lunch with wifey. That's so sweet & even time to send off boy to school.

My boys love bread too just like me. I can survive without proper meals but just bread actually... LOL :D

  17. Chegu Carol - LOL! Wifey eats bread the same way too ... I used to eat bread that way too but that was years ago, I'd sometimes even spread it with that Nutella (correct spelling ah?) chocolate thingy and man, that was yummy. But I've lost my sweet tooth cravings years ago already.

So, go get your mom-in-law a grandson already ... LOL!

  18. The world according to me - Oh, cheese sandwich, nothing beats that one. I sometimes make my cheese sandwich using blue cheese, wifey thinks I'm a little weird in that sense but I just love blue cheese ... LOL!

Our relationship is pretty solid but it's not without the occasional arguments here and there but that's what makes it more solid from day to day.

Oh, I'm going out lock hunting later today ... LOL!

  19. Tammy - You're right when you say kids love peanut butter cos peanut butter disappears like water here too. LOL!

  20. Janice - That's one advantage to working so close to home. I used to work quite far before my office relocated to its current location.

I love bread too but I prefer it toasted with garlic spread and cheese in it ... Now that's the life ... LOL!
