My Adrenalin Rush Saturday Night!

We had some pretty bad drama happening in my neighbourhood last night. There I was just after dinner, quite a while after dinner to be more specific, working on the handcrafted jewelry that I was making for wifey, ok, ok, I'm fibbing here ... LOL! Wifey and me were actually watching Grey's Anatomy and and suddenly half way through it we heard this loud sound of a crash coming from just down the main road.

My house happens to be about six houses away from the main road and a sound like that could only mean one thing. An accident had happened. I run to the door and try to peek out and can't see anything. Then I see all the neighbours also coming out their houses so wifey and me were not the only ones who actually heard the crash.

Being the busy body that I am and since all the neighbours were all heading towards the main road to see what was going on, I naturally follow them. As I reach the main road I see this car lying on its side in the middle of the road and another just beside it with the front totally smashed.

Oh my god, it's a major accident! No wonder the sound we heard were like two elephants crashing. The car that was lying on it's side looked like it was hit on the side head on and flipped over and must have spun a few times cos it ended up against the flow of traffic. The damage was horrible. It was one of our teeny weeny national car, the Perodua Kancil and it was hit by a heavy duty Volvo sedan. You all know how tough that car is so you can imagine the damage to the other car.

Now, I'm a person who is squeamish when it comes to accidents and blood and seeing the way the mangled car is lying in the middle of the road, I stop in my tracks quite a distance away from the scene, too afraid I'd see body parts and blood all around (gory, I know, but I am terrified at the sight of blood!). After my initial shock, I slowly inch my way nearer and discover that the occupants all managed to crawled out of the car and are all not in too much of a bad shape.

Thank god for that cos there were two kids involved as well and though they were crying they seemed okay with one of the younger kids sporting a flow of blood on his left leg just below the knee but he was standing up so I presumed he was okay. I'm surprised that they actually lived through the carnage cos their car looked like a total loss.

Then the kid with the blood on his leg ran crying towards the house three doors away from me. I was perplexed as to why he did that and only then did I look closely at the victims and discovered they were my neighbours from3 doors away! Now, what are the chances of the accidents victims being people you knew. Man, I'm glad they were okay. They all didn't sustain any serious injuries and if I were them I'd be thanking whatever gods there were that were looking out for them. It was a terrible accident.

I'm not really sure whose fault it was but I'm betting that they actually made an illegal u-turn and on the main road and this Volvo just slammed into them. It was night and there was a slight curve at this particular junction where you're not supposed to make a u-turn but which people totally disregard and make u-turns anyway. I've seen so many people just ignore the u-turn sign and I've even seen police patrol cars doing the same!

But I also put a little of the blame on the Volvo driver cos for that car to be as badly damaged as it was, the Volvo driver (who was a kid hardly above 21 years of age) must have been speeding. I would bet my last dollar on that. You should have seen the front of his Volvo and must have been speeding to damage a Volvo that badly. I'm just glad no one died from it. And most of all, I'm glad there wasn't any blood all over the road, otherwise wifey would have to come carry me home cos I would have fainted at the sight of blood ... LOL!

Anyways, after they all checked each other out, the blame game started. You know, the usual 'you must have been speeding and you must have made an illegal u-turn' nonsense. I didn't really see what happened so I won't blame anyone. All I know is an accident of that kind at that particular junction is going to happen again cos everyone just disregards that no u-turn sign and drivers from the other direction just zooms along the main road like as if it's a race track or something and I know one day an accident worse than last night will eventually happen.

People these days just have no regards for traffic laws and couldn't care less about their safety or the safety of others. But till then, I'll just be a lot more careful when I'm crossing that junction from now on. And I really hope that my neighbours are okay. I told my mom about it and I'm sure she'll drop by their place to find out how they are so I guess I'll know the outcome later.

Well, that was my adrenalin rush drama for the Saturday night, made me miss at least 20 minutes of Grey's Anatomy though! Just though I'd share some of my more 'exciting' moments with you guys ... hehehe ...

  3. You haven't seen bad drivers until you've gone to klang! I swear, a lot of the drivers and motorcyclists there are colour-blind! The red light doesn't mean anything to them!

    And...
they make their own traffic rules. where else can you find a two-lane road becoming a four-lane one but in klang!

Our education system has failed us. We have illiterates who can't read signs for the life of them. But, I have to admit, sometimes I amazingly become one of them, too! LOL!

  4. I can't stand watching accidents and blood myself. I feel nauseous even seeing the wreckage.

Your neighbors are lucky, they must have their guardian angels in the car, hehee.

It's hard to tell who's fault it was, and worse, the involved would only pinpoint each other. So better let the expert find out. Speed driving will always have it's consequence.

  5. Wow! It's amazing to hear an accident with a Volvo & Kancil with no major hurt! They are really blessed,.
I did involve in a car accident that my car also flip on the top. No major injuries too! However, something strange happen. After 1 year, a piece of glass came out from my hand that was injured during the accident!
Too amazed, always thought it was some kind of blue black or Scar?!
If you do get to talk to them, pls do advise them to do a full body chk up :)

  6. oh gosh.. good thing no one's hurt seriously! I read somewhere that most accidents happen quite near home.. hmmm

  7. Gah. Accidents. Never a pretty sight. I, too, always start imagining things like limbs everywhere and whatnot whenever I hear a crash near the roads. :S

Lucky no one got hurt though.

  8. Most of drivers are imprudent. Here in Brazil many people die because of car accidents. We don't have conflicts and wars but deaths in traffic exceed all of them. :(

  9. Ops, I forgot...

    I love Gray's Anatomy as well. :)

  12. wow! what a spectacular night! im so glad noone had any major injuries.

my god! a damage on volvo would means it need something real hard to hit it. I agreed with you, the volvo driver must have been speeding otherwise there wont be any damage or a little damage. ><

whenever there's accident, i am always too afraid to see it. once there was an accident happened right in front of me. I was sitting outside a mamak with my friends when suddenly we heard some loud crashes. We turned to look at the main road and there a car had hit a tree and landed against the traffic on the divider and hit on few more trees before coming to a halt. My heart was pumping like mad. "How's the driver & passengers?"

My darling & friends rushed to the scene while i sat at the mamak waiting for them to come back with news. I was also a busybody but just too afraid to watch it. Like you said, what if there's blood and bodyparts on the road?? It's better to hold my curiosity then to have nightmares for months.

well, to cut the story short, the driver had lost control of his speeding car at the curve. Thank God he & his wife and baby were all unhurt.

  13. Alamak! So kesian oh. It's a good thing that no one was hurt badly...

But you making jewelry? Hahaha That is something I must watch! :P

  14. OMG!! Thank god nobody is hurt in the accident. If not, I'm sure your wife will be in trouble carrying you back home when you fainted at the accident scene..LOL!!
Well, i really hate those who made an illegal U-turn..it's too dangerous you know..but those illegal u-'turners' don't give it a care until they involved in an accident..if they die while making a U-turn, well, their lifes will be a complete waste..For a U-turn, it's not worth dying for it.

  15. Maslight - I love Grey's Anatomy :D It's on one my list of shows not to be missed ... hehehe ...

Yeah, I'm glad no one was hurt. It really was a terrible accident though.

And we all can't resist the urge to peek at accidents la ... LOL!

  16. Lena - 20 minutes was a lot, you know ... LOL!

Yeah, it probably is the same everywhere. Nobody respects traffic laws until something bad happens to them ...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Perry - I've done my fair share of ignoring traffic laws too but I'm more inclined to follow them these days.

And I don't need to go to Klang, it happens here in my own neighbourhood too. Sometimes I think they should just remove all the road signs and use the money for something else since no one really bothers to read anymore ...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Marlene - Yeah, no one will ever admit it was their fault after causing an accident. I remember I caused an accident once long ago and put the blame on the other party and got away with it ... LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lianny - It was amazing that nothing serious happened! Especially after being hit by a Volvo!

1 year later and you found a piece of glass in your hand? Wow, that is truly something for 'Ripley's Believe it or not' LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sting - It's true. A huge percentage of accidents happen near home cos you get so relaxed that you're almost home to the point of being careless ...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Haizum - Hey, you're blogging again :D

Trust me, I was scoping the place really carefully making sure there were no body parts lying around before even going nearer ... LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Tammy - Urmmm, yeah, Grey's. I love the show ... hehehe ...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Cidao - It's the same here too. The fatalities increase especially during the festive season. You'd think these people would have learnt from past mistakes ...

    ReplyDelete
  24. BT - I'm always wary of accidents, especially ones that involve blood and gore! Ugghhh!

LOL! No la, I can't make jewelry for nuts la ...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Deana - Thank you :D

Yeah, I'm one of those who watch Grey's too ... hehehe ... I didn't like the show initially but after a couple of episodes, it sort of grew on me. I tried watching the Practice but somehow I just can't see to like it. Maybe it's the cast or something. Just tak ngam la ...

Oh, you're coming to KL? Well, the weather is unpredictable these days so I hope you have good weather when you're here ...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jean - I'm positive the driver of the Volvo was speeding cos you know how tough that car is. I'm just glad no one was seriously hurt.

When I'm driving and have to pass an accident site, my knees will immediately become weak in anticipation of seeing blood and stuff and most of the time I'll just not even look at the accident until I'm way past it ... LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Rozella - Yeah, they really have to thank whatever gods that was looking out for them. It was like a scene out of demolition man ... LOL!

Hahaha ... what? you didn't know I could make jewelry? When pigs fly ... LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Kadus Mama - Yeah, I don't think it would help my macho image to have wifey dragging me home after I faint there, ya? LOL!

Loads of people just don't bother about signages anymore like what Perry mentioned in his comments. But the worst thing is seeing police cars doing the same ... siggghhh ...

  29. Nick, u know what? I used to be rushing like mad woman on the roads just to catch my favourite Chinese drama. Now I guess i grow bored of it. So, no longer hook on tv. So not much adrenaline rush for me on the road now. ;p

  30. I'm so glad to hear everyone was okay. How lucky were they? I hope they all take better care in future, as next time they might not be so lucky.

  33. Wah! Another "exciting" incident for u Nick! ;)

Glad nobody was hurt. Better stop asking for more "exciting" incident now LOL! :)

  34. nick, im like u too except that it's not my knees that goes weak, it's my mind, it feels like as tho' im gonna pass out. ><

  35. Rose - LOL! I used to drive like crazy at one time too but with a family and all, I'm more inclined to drive like a snail these days ...

    ReplyDelete
  36. The World According To Me - They were REALLY lucky cos accidents like that normally have at least one fatality!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Meleah - You know that is so true. No matter how bad a crash can be, we always just CANNOT look away ...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Monica - Yeah, phew! Shock was putting it mildly ... hehehe ...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Marzie - LOL! Yeah, I think I could do with a little less excitement in my life! Especially excitement of these kind!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jean - LOL! I know exactly how that feels. I'm always afraid to look at accidents ...

I'll be dropping by your blog soon to see what you have for me ...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Alamakkkk!! Kesiannyaaa you hadta miss your show! LOL! I guess those are the consequences of being a busybody right nick! You should have taken your camera first! Hehehe..

But seriously, that must've been one helluva sight! I've never actually witnessed a really bad accident before. Not that I'd like to.. :P

    ReplyDelete
  42. Syura - LOL! Yeah, a whole 20 minutes of it even ... siggghhh, that's what I get for being a penyibuk!

It was, I was really apprehensive about going nearer to the accident scene, but like Meleah said, you can't turn away from looking at one ...

  43. I would be useless in an emergency because I don't like blood and guts either. I'm glad everyone seemed to be ok. You just never know when tragedy will strike and it's a timely reminder for us all to be more careful on the roads. The trouble is you can be so very careful but can't do anything about the other idiots on the road who think the road laws are just a "suggestion".

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi Nick,

Thank god they are ok with minor scraps! Gosh! I hope they learned their lesson and not take anymore illegal turnings! Some ppl in their quest to save time and literally cut corners, didnt realised they are putting no only themselves in danger but also whoever they are driving and others on the road and those ppl can be the one they love! *SHIVERS*

  45. ohhh goshhh....thk goodness they especially the children are ok...some of the teenage drivers are really reckless drivers especially when thy are trying to show off to whoever they are trying to impress...ish!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Gypsy - That's true, no matter how careful one can be, there will always be some moron who doesn't give two hoots about traffic laws.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Jen - I actually don't really know if they did make an illegal u-turn and I'm just guessing cos everyone seems to do it over here even with a big huge no u-turn sign.

But I'm glad they're okay. I saw them the other day and they all looked alright :D

    ReplyDelete
  48. Aunty J - That's true, most of these teenagers are in that show off phase and sometimes get just a bit too careless. I should know, I was a teenager once too ... LOL!
