Of Sickness, Food & Expanding Waists ...

It's actually been a pretty boring day today and I'm glad that it was. The impending signs of me falling sick didn't materialize fully and I'm relived by it. I was totally out of it yesterday and decided to listen to wifey and head for the company clinic and get myself checked out. The medication that I got helped in a big way.

I'm happy to say that apart from an irritable throat, I seem to be back to my normal self today :D Unfortunately my older boy is down with fever right now. He missed school today and was laying in bed all day, well at least he was when I went home during lunch today. I hope he gets well soon. He just recovered from a long bout of flu and fever not too long ago.

The thing is when any of us gets sick at home, it'll soon pass from one to another until it makes a full cycle and then only will it finally go away. Normally, I'm the one who gets if first and pass it on to wifey and since she spends more time with the boys than I do, they'll get it next. That's when out medical bills will rise dramatically.

And speaking of bills increasing dramatically, I'm sure my food bills will be going up quite a bit, especially in this Ramadhan season and the wonderful galore of food on offer out there. Worse still, just across the road from where I stay we have this Ramadhan bazaar selling loads of sumptuously delicious food (oh gosh, my mouth is salivating already).

Every year, wifey and me never fail to head there during the fasting month to satisfy our lust for the goodies they have on offer. And we normally end up buying all kinds of everything there. Even the boys would have a blast wanting this and that. And all this leads up to an expensive food bill but what to do? How can anyone resist the pull of a Ramadhan bazaar la ... hehehe ...

So far this year, we haven't gone there yet. The bazaar started on Monday but my cousin took us out for dinner that day so we missed the first day. And yesterday I was too sick to get anything, though I did get some cakes for wifey from there. And today, the older boy is sick so we probably won't be going as well. But I definitely am going to drag wifey over there tomorrow. I cannot resist it's pull for too long.

I do have a couple of my favourites over there like the 'ayam perchik' (a kind of barbecued chicken with sauce on it), the 'sup kambing' (goat soup is the best I can think of as a translation ... hehehe) and as far as I'm concerned it's one of the best 'sup kambings' around cos you should see the queue of people lining up for it! Wifey on the other hand is more interested in the cakes they have on offer and the boys just love this thing called 'roti John' (once again, John's bread is the best I can translate it ... a little help guys?).

I'll take some pictures when I'm there tomorrow and show off some of the food I'm going to be wolfing down ... hehehe ... And another thing that's going to be going up this month besides the food bill will be my stomach size I guess. I'm probably going to put on a few pounds by the time the month of Ramadhan is over! Anyways, late as it may be, I'd like to wish all my Muslim friends a happy Ramadhan :D Don't forget to invite me over to your houses during Raya, k? LOL!

  17. Good thing you went to see the doc. Can tell you're feeling better already. I used to fall sick every month, but since I started taking flu shots, I don't fall sick anymore. It really works you know!

I have been to some food pasar malams in Malaysia before and boy, they are really fantastic! The variety of food is amazing. The ones here can't even come half as close!

  21. oooohhh... i miss the bazaars back in KL.. here in KK the food aren't all that great. In fact, this puasa, is the mellow-est puasa we've had. We hardly wake up for sahur (I haven't woken up to eat ever since puasa started) and eat very little when we buka puasa.

But are my fats diminishing??? Hardly. :(

  22. Shemah - I haven't actually explored all of them yet which I intend to do (I hope).

Wow, you can tahan eating so little huh? Don't worry though, surely but steadily those fats will be gone :D
