I Long For Wednesday!

There are times you think you can avoid facing the dreaded Monday work day altogether, especially when Monday falls on a public holiday. Which was exactly how it was for this Monday which was yesterday. The Hindu festivals of lights was celebrated yesterday and it was a public holiday here.

Great, I thought. I can skip Monday at work altogether. I won't have to face the usual crap Monday dishes out for me at work. But you know what? That Monday fellow is a sneaky little b#@%*@#! And it sure knows how to extract it's revenge even though you manage to skip the day completely.

This morning, when I reached work, as usual I'll do my normal routine of opening the shutters and unlocking all the doors. I touch my key card to the electronic keylock system and slam my face head on into a door that never opened. The missing telltale beep that normally follows the unlocking of the door should have been a sign that something was wrong.

Never mind I say. This happens sometimes when I don't touch the card properly against the keylock system. I try again and nothing happens. Instead I see a series of weird numbers appearing on the display of the keylock system. Damn, this is not good. I try and try again a few more times and the door still remains locked.

Crap, I say. So I try to log in manually with the master door access codes and no matter how hard I try to press the keypad to key in the numbers, nothing happens. Damn, this is really not good. With no other option, I decide to wait for the rest to turn up, maybe my key card is faulty or something. But no such luck. The same happens with everyone else's key card.

We're all stuck outside the office and the morning sun is beginning to shine right on all of us. I'm already sweating like a pig (if pigs sweat, that is) and worse still, when I call the technician, he says he can't come over right now and would only be able to come maybe late afternoon.

Well, thank you very much Mr. Technician. In the meantime, we'll all stand outside and roast in the sun like some barbecue meat until you arrive! As it is I'm wasn't in a good mood to begin with. Calling my boss was pointless, her cell was switched off, not that she would have been able to help much anyway.

So, me and my colleague who by now is as mad as I am decide we're going to unscrew the door and we couldn't care less if we damaged the door or not. It was either that or roast in the hot morning sun. And after some major attempt of unscrewing this, breaking that and twisting this, we managed to get the doors open. Phew, what a relief, though I don't think my boss would be too happy with the outcome.

There I am sweating even worse than a pig (I still have no idea if pigs sweat), I rush up to my room to switch on my air conditioning and there to greet me is a table full of ants. and I mean full, like a whole colony of them having the time of their life on my table. I stand there dumbfounded for a few minutes. I'm very certain I didn't leave anything sweet on my table that would attract them and yet, there they are, a few million of them.

I find the bug spray and blast the shit out of them and proceed to clean the mess and it was a mess mind you, imagine millions of ants on my table that had to be wiped off, then I had to vacuum my whole room and and only then I could sit down and breathe. What else is going to happen next I wonder? This is Mondays revenge for trying to escape it. It just comes back on Tuesday with a vengeance! The whole incident from the door to the ants takes a whole 2 hours and now I smell like a construction worker.

I just hate Mondays. I know it's Tuesday already but I know this is Mondays dastardly sneaky plot to get me. And it just won't let me escape. I'll bet even if the world powers abolish Monday it'll still find a way to make my life miserable! Siggghhh, I am so not in the mood today. And this throbbing headache that I'm having right now doesn't help much. I just want to run somewhere, dig a hole and bury my head in it. I know it's still early in the day, but I hope tomorrow will be a better one.

  1. First your boss didn't pay the internet. I thought she didn't pay the electric bill this time. But wow, getting locked out, baking in the heat and then ants...what a lousy way to start the day! At least the air con works..

  2. I swear I was just thinking the same thing last night.. "Do pigs really sweat.. profusely? OR at all even??" LOL!

Anyways, I hope you'll have a better day after your lunch break. It super sucked to have your desk mauled by ants..

Maybe you should totally eliminate Monday from your calendar. Erase the Mondays, and make it double Sundays.. so you'll look forward to the day without seeing the word Monday. :D

  6. Some days it just isn't worth getting out of bed. If it makes you feel any better Nick, I spend just about every Monday sick and in terrible pain from the side effects of my MS injection which I have every Sunday night. Yep, Mondays sure do suck.

  8. I hate this week cos it's autumn break, yet I can't get away from all the trainings and seminars, grrr! I should have been sleeping the whole week, hahaa!

There you are for complaining on your Mondays, the ants must have missed the boss. If only medicine can make your Tuesday good, but it's impossible. Wait and see tomorrow instead.
