Practice What You Preach ...

I'm a pretty fair and honest kinda person. I give credit where credit is due and I give crap where crap is due. I don't believe in being a hypocrite. I'm not the kind who would just criticize people and then go around pretending to have a holier than thou attitude. I always practice what I preach, well most of the time anyway ... LOL!

You won't find me telling someone you can't do that and then behind their back, go and do the exact same thing that person was doing. No, if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. If I make a mistake, then I'll admit it and not try to make excuses for it.

Normally, I give out my Moron of the Week award towards the weekend and this week I was kinda skeptical that I'd even find a moron to feature here. But then, the opportunity came that I simply couldn't wait till the weekend to post cos this moron deserves to be mentioned and given the Moron of the Week award right this instant.

So, without further ado, I'd like to present this prestigious award to none other than Nick Phillips, the moron for this week! Yes, folk I'm giving myself my own award cos I am the moron who did not buckle his seat belt, got stopped at a police road block and ended up getting summoned for it! Serves me right!

What happened was, this morning as I was heading out to get something not too far away, I kinda forgot, well, not really forgot, I just stupidly decided that it's such a short distance that I was too lazy to buckle up. So there I was driving that short distance without my seat belt when I turned into this corner and headed smack into a police road block.

Darn! I've had it this time, maybe they didn't see me without the seat belt. Maybe they'd let me off. No such luck. I was pulled over and seeing as how it's my own stupidity, I got out of the car and admitted to the policeman that I didn't have my seat belt on and I deserved to be summoned for the offense.

Me: 'Tuan, saya tau kesalahan saya. Saya nie bodoh tak pakai tali pinggang. Saya layak disaman.' (I know my offense, sir. I was stupid not to buckle up. I deserve to get a ticket)

Policeman: *speechless*

You should have seen the look on the policeman's face when I actually admitted it was my fault and told him to issue me a ticket. He just didn't know what to say and with a puzzled look on his face, just issued me the summons. I'll bet he was expecting me to come out of my car and protest or plead ignorance or even make up some silly excuse why I wasn't wearing my seat belt ... LOL!

And because of my honesty in admitting what a moron I was he was very nice to me and even said he'll give me a longer time to pay the summons and he even made the summons out as cheap as he could which was RM30 and told me that I could try to appeal for a further discount later when I was paying for it. Phewwwww ... I was relieved to hear that.

I guess being honest and admitting to ones faults does have certain benefits. But really, it was no excuse for me not to buckle up even if it was for a short distance. There I am always complaining about some idiotic driver breaking the rules and I turn out to be one too. Like I said, I always practice what I preach. And that means I'm not excluded from getting the Moron of the Week award too. I was dumb not to buckle up and so I truly and absolutely deserve being Moron of the Week!

That'll learn me.

  5. Aiya, I was hoping the police officer would let you off with a warning.

But really, do buckle up. Studies have shown that most accidents occur very close to home.

  15. Hey Nick!

As if 'Uncle Pol' could smell you did not buckle up cos the distance is not that far. That excuse reminds me of the advert on TV about the boy, his helmet and oyster sauce. ;)

    "Saya layak disaman"
    ROFL!
