A Heart Of Gold

A couple of days ago, wifey and me were having a chat about the world in general, shipping boxes, the current state of the economy and how everything was going up in price and all that. The boys were outside the room playing and creating a ruckus like they always do.

Wifey and me normally spend quite a bit of time in the bedroom cos half the time the boys are either watching TV or making such a racket in the hall that the bedroom is the most peaceful place for us to chit chat.

The younger fellow will occasionally come up and say he's hungry and when we are we going to cook them lunch, dinner or whatever. That fellow is perpetually hungry by the way. I guess it's from all the jumping around he does all day at home.

So, while we were chatting, he runs up and says he hungry and whether we can have dinner outside cos he's fed-up of eating at home. Yeah, imagine a ten year old boy saying he's fed up of home cooked food ... LOL!

Anyways, wifey and me jokingly tell him that we can't afford to eat out anymore cos the prices of food are pretty expensive these days. We put on this really sullen and sad face (yeah, we can be cruel at times ... hehehe ...) and say that we have no choice but to eat at home from now on.

He looks at us for a minute and then he says,

'Never mind, today I'll treat you guys to dinner. We can use my savings from the piggy bank.'

Both wifey and me are stunned. We never expected him to say that. We thought he would just be his normal buggy self and force us to take him out for dinner. We're surprised but we carry on with the pretense.

We ask him where he wants to take us for dinner and that it might cost quite a bit to eat out. He says never mind, his piggy bank has quite a bit of cash in it (and he does have quite a chunk of money in there).

We were really touched by his gesture and decide to take him up on his offer, of course we weren't going to use his piggy bank money but at least he would have felt pretty good about the fact of him treating us to dinner.

And what touched me even more was the fact that he said to wifey,

'Mommy, if you don't have money and need to use money, you can always use my piggy bank savings for any emergency.'

I for one was really surprised by what he said. I'm touched that my younger boy would willingly part with his savings if we ever needed money. It's not something I would expect a boy of ten years old to say but I was impressed all the same.

He's pretty possessive with his money and he's been saving it for ages. I have no idea what he wants to buy with his savings but he's forever counting the money in his piggy bank and he knows exactly how much there is in there down to the last cent! Telling us that he can use his savings for an emergency is pretty decent of him :D

I'm really proud of him though the two of us argue so much that wifey is immune to our usual fights these days. Sometimes I need to tell him a lot more that I think the world of him. He's a brat and gets on my nerves with his antics half the time but he's only being a kid.

Well, you little brat, I know sometimes you do peek into my blog when mommy is online. If you are, I wanna tell you, as much as we always fight and often times don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, I am extremely proud of you and the things you do (the good things that is) and that I do love you with all my heart.

Oh and thanks for the dinner treat by the way :D Now, don't give mommy a hard time at home and stay away from my snacks ... LOL!

here's a tip for you, to keep them away from your snacks, hide your snacks in your closet. at least that's what I do but not away from kids cause I don't have any yet.

  28. Bless his sweet little heart. Sometimes our kids nearly drive us insane and then they go and do something really generous and thoughtful like that. It makes you think that you must be doing something right after all.
