A Hairy Tale ...

Breaking away from my recent norm of only posting on Friday here I am with a midweek post :D Actually I'm a little free in the office at the moment. Things are kinda slow recently and we're beginning to see the work flow getting lesser and lesser. Not a very happy scenario. Hope it doesn't get too bad to the point of ending up with now new projects at all.

Anyways, that bleak scenario aside, I've recently started sporting a new hairstyle for work. I've always combed or brushed my hair towards the back without any parting for as long as I can remember and recently out of the blue, I decided that I wanted a new look.

So, I decided to have a parting on the left and comb it differently. Now, you must remember I said I've had my combed back hairstyle for ages and everyone I know is pretty used to seeing me that way and that includes wifey. Last week when I went to her sporting my new side parting slightly geeky looking hairstyle just before we went shopping, she was appalled! She look at me and gave me this disbelieving look and said,

'Don't tell me you're really going to go out looking like that? You look like a geek!'

Well, urrrmmm, yeah I am! And so I went out like that. You should have seen the look in her disbelieving eyes ... LOL! I'm sure she would have distanced herself from me if I wasn't holding on tightly to her ... hahaha ... But I persisted and decided to keep that look and have now been sporting my new geeky flat side parting look for nearly 8 days now.

Wifey doesn't really like my new innocent geeky look. She much prefers my combed back unruly hairstyle. But I'm going to stick with it for a while until I'm fed up of it ... hahaha ... sorry honey. The stares I got when I walked into the office was classic. Everyone just stopped what they were doing and simply stared ... hahaha ... I could picture what was running through their minds.

'He's finally lost it and gone completely bonkers'

And you know what, they're probably right. When it comes to my hair, I'm one of the fussiest persons on earth to the point of being really vain. You can ask my two best friends and they'll tell you long strange but true tales about me and my hair. Back in my younger days (and when I had much more hair, mind you) I'd spend hours in front of the mirror styling my hair before going to out anywhere, even to the shops.

I'd wake up early, wash my hair, plaster it full of gel and try to get it just the way I wanted it and then go out to wherever it was that I was going to. I used to take a bus back then and the moment I went up the bus, I'd close all the windows around me (buses didn't have air-conditioning yet) so that the wind wouldn't mess my nicely made up hair. LOL!

There have been occasions when my hair would get so messed up in college that I'd take a taxi home and get it restyled and then head back to college. Yes, I was THAT vain back then. Come to think of it, there was this occasion where my best buddy got a punch in the stomach for messing my hair just before I was about to go on a date ... LOL! Sorry buddy, I never did get around to apologizing to you for that incident. But you should have known better than to mess with my hair those days :D It was a no-no.

Yes, I was a vain one when it came to anything to do with my hair. My hair is really one of the most unmanageable hairs this side of the planet. It's wavy and gets even wavier when it gets long, which is why I always keep it short these days. Don't ask me to go for the bald look, my head is so uneven people would laugh if I were to go bald. It would look like a road full of speed bumps.

I've also always wanted to have straight hair. I can't remember the amount of times I tried straightening my hair. Not that it worked mind you, it only lasted for a week or so and even then it wasn't the straight hair that I so envisioned. It ended up just being less wavy, that's all. And another thing that I was fond of doing was dyeing my hair in various shades of color ranging from blondish, reddish, coppery and even bleaching it at times.

And all those years of having so many different types of chemicals in my hair didn't really do much good for it though. It's become coarse and keeps on dropping faster than I can sweep it off the floor! There was a time when wifey even said it resembles a wire brush ... hahaha ... But these days my hair is so much lesser rowdier than it used to be. It isn't as coarse as before and it's much more manageable though it still hasn't achieved that ultimate straight hair look that I've always dreamed of having ... siggghhh ...

But for now, I'm going to be walking around sporting my flat side parted geeky look for a while. I'm sure its bound to bring looks of shock from people who know me. I wonder how my clients are going to react cos I haven't been to any appointments with my new look just yet! LOL!

Good hair story! I know many guys who are like that too; their hair is the most important part of themselves. They'll spend so much time, money and effort just maintaining their hair. :P

Ok on a serious note, I think a geek look is the trend now. It sure beats an Ah-Beng look :)

  29. HA HA HA HA HA, whew, Nick, this story of yours is an absolute riot, I laughed so darned hard reading it I nearly had coffee come out of my nose. Wow, next time you're going to write something like "this", pull-eeze, give us all a warning first so that we can be sure to have some kleenex handy, coffee and harsh laughing are not a good mix, lol.

Anyway, now that I have had a chance to compose myself, I wanted to let you know that you do have an award waiting for you over at The Cluttered Bubble. Anytime you are ready for it, please feel free to swing by and pick it up. And, last but not least, please leave some tissue while you're at it, I have a feeling I might just need it for my next visit here, ha ha.

Take care and have a good one! :-)

  33. It's good that you changed your hairstyle. I find it rather liberating actually. Hehehe Always chop off my hair whenever I am stressed out... but hmm, I guess that's a girl thing eh???

    ReplyDelete
  34. Rozella - If I chopped off my hair every time I was stressed out, I'd be bald la, judging by the amount of hair I have left! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I seldom see guys changing hairstyles. You're bold to do this. Change is sometimes good even for a while. :-)

I bet you'll go back to your usual hairstyle, hehee!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Marlene - Not bold, more like crazy ... LOL! Well, we'll see about me reverting back to my old style :D
