New Place, Same Crap!

I think I'm cursed with bad luck, work wise that is. Every company I happen to work with is always saddle with some incompetent nincompoop. And right now, I have one working with me. Why does this always happen to me. It's been like this for every company I've ever worked in. Somebody up there must hate me really bad.

Those of you who have been reading my blog for quite a while know that I tend to sometimes (well ok, all the time) complain about things. And I think I've posted about the imbeciles that I worked with in my previous company. I thought when I finally left there and started work in this new company, things would be different. Maybe I could really just do what I'm supposed to do without having to worry about anything else. How sadly mistaken I was on that count.

We have this artist working for us, a fairly new girl. She's been with us for two months now. I remember the day she came for interview. I was sitting in for the interview with my boss. She stated that she was adequately experienced in the job she was applying for and could work with minimum supervision. She sounded fairly convincing and my boss hired her.

Then she started work with us. Of course, as with all new staff and also working in a new environment you tend to need a little time to get used to stuff. But then this supposedly experienced artist wasn't working up to speed. Every little thing she came running to either my boss or me and started asking for help. At first we thought ok, maybe she's learning the culture here and would improve soon. Then it happened really frequently. It got to a point where it started interrupting both our work with her incessant need for help.

And the amount of mistakes she makes, not to mention the amount of resources that she wastes trying to get a job done right that sometimes we ended up losing money instead of making money! And because of this, it's come to a point that my boss doesn't trust her with stuff anymore and I'm ending up doing creative work again. Gee, this sounds just like old times ... siggghhh ... I'm not at all happy with that. In fact I even told my boss how I felt about it.

Why do we even have a DTP artist and designers if we don't trust them enough to get them to work on projects. We might not as well have them if that was the case. I don't want to be saddled with going back to doing artwork and stuff and then running around and seeing clients. It's damn tiring and I had enough of that in my previous job, thank you very much. And this particular artist is highly paid even.

It's a good thing my boss agrees with me on this issue. I don't know what his decision on her will be but I sure hope he works something out. Right now, I have quite a few jobs running and I'm doing all the work myself as I can't trust her with any of my stuff. I don't want to lose the clients we have cos she takes ages to get things done. Something that can be done in half an hour takes her at least 2 days! Really, I'm not kidding. With the times being what it is, we have to do everything we can to cling on to all our clients and she's not helping at all.

I don't know, maybe she's on drugs or something seeing as how she can't be naturally as blur as she makes herself out to be. Maybe she should check into a drug rehab centre or something ... LOL! They might have some kind of pills that would make her start working properly seeing as how she boasted that she could do wonders during her interview. Well, I know my boss is going to have some harsh words with her tomorrow.

I hope something good comes out of it. I really don't fancy doing creative and studio work again. Imagine if I had to do all that again, where would I find the time to blog? LOL!

  2. Oh man, do I ever hear you there, Nick, I had the same problem when I used to work in real estate. Sure can be frustrating when you have to spend your time constantly showing someone else (over and over and over again) how to do something (that is, for the most part, relatively simple), and/or, even worse, having to fix their mistakes once they've made them. I know we learn from our mistakes but, honestly, if it requires someone making a million mistakes before even getting it right the first time...is it really worth the stress of trying?

Blah, thanx, but no thanx. :-)

  4. Perky - I wonder what people say about me behind my back though. Probably something in the lines of 'there comes Mr. Know-it-all' or 'Grouchy is here' LOL!

  5. Misstfied - I'm really the kind who wouldn't mind teaching someone to do things, but if it takes like forever and they still don't learn, then I can't stand it, especially when one claims they can do this and that and then you find out they can do jack shit (forgive the language) ...

  7. We are faced with idiots wherever we go and work. I would cut her lose, but before that, advice her.

  12. Ouch! There is always such a person in a company, you fire this one, next one will probably be the same too. It's very hard to find people with a certain level of competency that fits well.

  13. The Real Mother Hen - I agree but then again maybe it's just me. I expect just a little too much from people at times that if they don't meet my standards, I write them off ...
