This is going to be a short post (yeah right! LOL!). No seriously, this will be a short post. I'm aching in every conceivable part of my body right now. It's been an extremely busy day for me in the office. I haven't had time to sit down all day until just a few minutes ago.
God, I'm not as young as I used to be. Just doing the same stuff I did a couple of years ago takes three times more effort out of me and by the end of it, I'm totally beat and end up aching all over. How I long for youthful days when I could take on the world and then some.
This morning my boss and me had to do some installation for a golfing client of ours. They have this event at one of the golf courses over here. Now, we could easily hire installers to do it for us. That's what we normally do anyway.
But then yesterday, we decided that we might as well cut costs and install the stuff ourselves. It's not like we don't have experience doing stuff like these. Between the two of us we have close to 41 years experience in the industry. I've personally done countless installations and setups for my previous clients and my boss has done his fair share too. Think of all the money we would save by not hiring installers.
So we drove all the way to the even location with all the stuffed packed solidly into his MPV, happily looking forward to doing some hands on dirty work. We haven't done stuff like this for quite a while and it sounded like a fun idea at the time.
Boy, how wrong we both were. We never factored in how rusty we've both become from relying on other people to do the job for us and also how old we both are. My boss is a year younger than me which makes him 41 and me 42, still young by wide margin but try telling that to my aching bones!
I could hardly climb the ladder without my knees hurting like crazy or some other part of me protesting loudly while trying to carry stuff here and there. And the amount of breaks we both had to take made us look like we were from the old folks home! I think people from the old folks home were probably fitter than us. The staff at the golf course were pretty amused by our sufferings ... bunch of idiots, they could at least offer us some drinks ... LOL!
By the time we finished, we were both sweating profusely that I think I lost a coupe of pounds. And I won't even talk about the aches I have in my body right now. Let's just say, I'm going to be hobbling around like an old fogey for a while. Age really does take its toll on you.
What's perplexing is that I'm no stranger to doing hard work like this. I enjoy doing stuff like this and even revel in it. I would be the first to volunteer for event set ups and stuff like that cos it can be some darn fun and challenging. I thrive on stuff like these but unfortunately, I think from now on I'm just going to have to leave it for the proper people to do and just sit there and supervise. How utterly boring!
I hate growing old. All the stuff you could once do without breaking a sweat take three times the effort now. How I wish I could turn back time and be young and fit again. But I guess I should just be happy that I'm still alive ... LOL! Oh and honey, don't expect me to be moving those tv stands around the house this weekend. I don't think I could manage it, at least not until the aches go away.
.
