Two Takes

I don't have much to say today except for two things. One of them is a good and one of them is bad. Let's just say it's a bittersweet post. I'll start with the good story first. Get a cup of coffee and some snacks cos this is a long post. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Take One

The place I live in is called USJ, Subang Jaya and it's a place that is synonymous with its early morning traffic jams. Whenever people ask me where I live and I reply USJ, their first words are,

'Wah, that perpetually jammed place, ah?'

Talk about USJ, Subang Jaya and that's immediately what comes to everyone's mind. I've lived here for donkeys years and have gotten used (but not necessarily like) the traffic jam that it hardly bothers me. In fact, if you tell me the roads are clear, that would surprise me.

The people here have been pleading with the authorities for as long as I can remember to do something about the situation but to no avail. Instead, we get more development being approved and adding to the already horrendous traffic. I must remind you that all this was when the previous government was in power. I was voted for some of those idiots in previous elections based on their promise to alleviate the jams here.

But all it needed was one good leader, someone who really cared about the needs of the people, someone who actually wants to work for the people instead of just wanting nothing but power and prestige. Most importantly it needed someone not from any government based party. I am so happy to say that my decision to vote for the opposition in the last election has been paid back.

On Monday morning, I woke up for work, looked out my window and saw the main road that is usually full of cars moving at a snails pace just zooming by. Gone were the usual bumper to bumper traffic. The first thing that crossed my mind was if it was a holiday or some minister died (one can always hope can't one?) and this happened everyday right up to this morning.

The traffic was so smooth I could hardly believe it. And this is all due to some new traffic system they're trying out which was initiated by the Hannah Yeoh, the assembly woman for my area, whom I voted for, mind you.

In the space of one year, she has managed to do something that the previous bunch of clown could never achieve. She actually managed to clear up the synonymous traffic snarl I see outside my window everyday. At least she keeps her campaign promises.

Good for you Hannah. I am so glad that I voted for you. And you can be rest assured that I'll vote for you again in the next election and I'm sure the majority of the people of USJ will too :D Now, that is what I call someone who actually cares about the problems of the everyday people. Let this be a lesson to those previous clowns who were in power over here. Not that they'd learn from this mind you.

Take Two

This is the bad story. Just yesterday, I read in the Star Online that this 31 year old pregnant lady died because this moron, no moron is too good a word, monster would be a better word, this monster snatched her handbag while she was on her motorcycle causing her to fall off her machine, hitting her face directly onto the road which eventually led to her and also her unborn child's death. And this monster managed to escape.

And then this morning, I read another similar story of another lady getting her handbag snatched while she was on her motorcycle causing her fall and get rammed by an incoming car which killed her instantly and once again, the monster who did this got away scot free!

This isn't the first time something like this has happened over here. There has been so many incidents of snatch thieves causing deaths and the authorities really haven't been doing much to solve this issue. All I hear is the usual advise telling women how to carry their handbags and not go out in open places too much. That's about it.

Maybe I'm stupid or dumb or something and don't know about the secret operations the authorities have hatched to nab these snatch thieves but I sure don't see any changes. These monsters are getting bolder and people are dying because of them.

And what's worse is, after this mornings incident I hear on the radio they're planning to bar motorcyclist into the city areas at certain times of the day to deter these snatch thieves. Hello, does anyone have a brain over there? They could just go to some other place la!

Shouldn't more emphasis be placed on trying to hunt these people down instead of limiting motorcyclists from entering the city. They can still do their snatching routines on foot, you know. Sometimes, the authorities really stump me! If it were up to me, I'd shoot every single one of these snatch thieves in the kneecaps as an example of what would should be done to monsters like these.

Only when something bad happens will the authorities make a big hoohaa about things and then when things start quietening down, they will just forget about everything, at least until someone else dies that is. Look at all those express bus deaths. All the big fuss about coming down hard on these bus operators and drivers and yet, there are still bus drivers with dozens of summonses causing deaths out there ... siggghhh ...

My condolences to the families of the two ladies who died in those snatch theft incidents. I hope they haunt those monsters who caused their deaths.

  1. Barring motorcyclists? It's like telling ppl to use public transportation and carpooling instead of improving the public facilities for the people.

Met a lady a couple of weeks ago who told me she's been living and working in Taiwan for at least 9 yrs and there's no need to own a car coz the public transportation is good. Even though Taiwan has its fair share of traffic crawl....people can depend on public transportation and MRTs.

I would like to see something like this happening in KL for a change.

  2. Correction...ppl would not be pissed if the public transportation's improved. But it's so utterly bad and undependable and you're told to use it. That's what makes me very angry

  3. Waw, take 1 was gewd. I mean seriously, I would be happy too. Considering there in Selangor they owez change the road. Remind me during my time at college, we owez get confuse coz the road change and we had to take another diff route to college. Sux I tell you.

Story 2 ain't such a surprise coz it happened here too. Only I think the lady who got snatched from is safe (just bruises). I just think that the "AUTHORITY" should like be stationed all over the "black" area. I mean seriously. No where is safe these days *sigh. It's just sad what the world become T_T

  4. Mei Teng - I don't think it'll ever happen with the present government in power. They're just pretty good at saying we'll take action to solve this and that and then keep quite and hope people will forget all about it.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Mei Teng - Yup, that's the way the government works here. Just shove any excuse down our throats and we're supposed to accept it ...

  6. Maslight - Yeah, no where is safe these days. Maybe we should all just pack up and let that crazy Spaceman Spiff take us all to planet Zork :D

  7. OMG that is horrible! And our government really rarely own up to their words. I say reformasi!!!

  8. I think we shouldn't depend so much on cops, afterall there's so many of us & so few of them. If they catch the bad guys, then great.

But I think on our part, we should do more & be more responsible 4 our own safety. As for the 2 ladies that lost their life, I dunno... I think it could've been prevented if they had kept their handbag in the bike container/basket instead of leaving it hanging on the bike/their body.

Also, ppl should be more alert & aware of their surroundings. When u're alert, it gives u an extra second to react... which could b the difference between life & death.

p/s: sorry for the long comment. I'm so free at the office now. lolz!

  9. Oh wow... she solved your traffic woes! That's excellent, seriously!

As for the pregnant lady who died... it is indeed something very terrible. It is not safe anymore.

  10. Samantha - That's the government for you. No wants to take accountability for anything.

  11. Perky - I was darn free in the office too, how do you think I had the time for such a long post? LOL!

You have a point but I honestly think these women had their handbags in that little basket and these snatch thieves saw that as an easy target cos it really wouldn't make sense for them to have their handbags in their shoulders when riding their bikes. But I could be wrong though.

I agree that people should be more aware these days though. But a senseless waste of life.

  12. Terra Shield - Yes, she did. I don't know if it's a permanent thing but it feels great to see an empty road outside my house. I just hope it lasts :D

Yup, the world just isn't what it was just a few years ago ... siggghhh ...

  13. Like you, I've voted for the Opposition too. I believe BN really really needs a shake up. They have been sleeping for far too long and the Opposition should be given a chance to provide their mettle.

It's sad how crime has escalated to such an extent that lives are lost due to petty thefts. Again this is due to the mentality of the corrupt incompetent people in power and their so called leadership by example ...

  14. omg...i feel so sad reading about the pregnant lady. this happened once in tuaran few years ago. a pregnant lady was hitted my a lorry just nearby a hospital where she normally have her routine check up. i understand about the snatch thieve thingy. I experienced that once when I was on the way to class. Since my bag has long handle, I hold on to it. I have some bruises but I saved all my belogings. That is the reason why I am so scared to walk alone in PJ area during my school days.

  15. 1) Good for Hannah Yeoh - I noticed this week, lesser cars coming out of Subang into Federal, what gives?

    2) Yeah, motorcycles are not the perpetrators, the riders are, irrespective of whether they have their 2 wheelers, they will commit the crime. With the lack of police and CCTV unfortunately it looks like the ladies have to take EXTRA precaution.

  16. I almost become the victim of snatch thief too...damn the lazy muggers!!!!! They want easy money and never bother about other peoples life..
I really hate them very much!!!!!

  17. Wenny - Yup, they really need a shake up call! We put up with their crap for way too long!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Deana - Yes, the world these days is becoming a fearful place to live in. I really hope something can be done about this recent increase in crime. Why do we even have a Police force in the first place if they can't assure us of our safety?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Gallivanter - I'm really very happy to have an assembly woman like her. She makes those useless previous clowns look like fools, not that they needed help looking like fools la that is :D

It's not that we have lack of police personnel, the thing is they're busy with trying to arrest people for campaigning ...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kadusmama - They're becoming bolder these days and don't really care if people get hurt or even killed because of their actions. Where are the authorities to protect us in this matter? Do we always have to live in fear? Glad nothing bad happened to you ...

  21. Take 1 ~ Thumbs-up for your assembly woman. :)

Take 2 ~ Barring the motocyclist will not solve the problem! Their brain must have stopped working, those idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Take 1 - There's no more jams in USJ? That's real good news, maybe I should move there :D

Take 2 - I was shocked to see two pregnant motorcyclist getting killed by snatch thieves. It is really saddening but how do you filter who are snatch thieves are who aren't. Condolences to the family.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mama Mia - Yeah, they have to take more pro-active action instead of just barring people ...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bem - Yup, there really is no more jams over here :D I hope it's not a one off thing though.

I have to agree, it's hard to filter out the good from the bad ... siggghhhh ...

  25. Wow. That is terribly sad to hear. I think those motorcyclists should be in JAIL for vehicle manslaughter.

  26. Tammy - It is, it really is. I feel for the family of the two women who died ...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Meleah - They should be strung out and stoned to death!

  28. Hey Nick! You have the same problem we have. You know, it's not so much you need a leader that cares about the people as it is not having a leader who cares only about themselves or the government. The people take care of themselves if the government would just allow them to (and be honest about things).

My condolences to the families too:)

  29. The robbery problem needs to be solved or you will always be living in fear. To be honest, when friends suggest driving up to Malaysia for makan and shopping, the first thing that comes to our mind is always the safety.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Bobby - I have to agree with you Bobby. I guess this kind of thing happens worldwide too and not confined to just this country ...

    ReplyDelete
  31. BT - Wow, see how people from other countries view the situation here. I just hope the government here will do something do rectify that huge problem. Not that I'm holding my breath or anything. It might be easier to get pigs to fly :D

And I worry about my safety when I go out too and I live over here!

  32. Take 1: Power to the people!

Take 2: It's a perpetual sad state of affairs. *Sigh*

  33. Oh I have heard so many stories about the handbag thieves causing harm. My dad was a victim too. It makes me very angry.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Perry - Yes, power to the people. We no longer follow blindly anymore :D

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Real Mother Hen - Some people are just plain lazy and want to get easy money without ever having to work for it so they just resort to crime ... siggghhh ...

  36. I really hate those monsters!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. I don't trust on politicians because most of them are corrupts. There is no reliable politician mainly in Brasil. If one of them is doing a good job, it´s because he always wants something in exchange.

The second story is very sad. our society is full of monsters like that one.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Cidao - Same here buddy. I think all politician are corrupt too with the exception of a few :D
