Take Two

Gee, these days my posting frequency are getting too few and very far in between. Gone are the days when I wrote a post practically everyday! Work has been keeping me pretty busy and just finding the time to get online and write something is already an effort. Even finding the time to get to catch up with your blogs is getting to be so darned difficult.

I'm just glad it's Friday cos I really need the break. I've been working my butt off all week and the weekend is much welcomed. Now that I have the time to blog I'm just too drained to sit here for too long to write one of my infamous long winded posts so I'll just do two short takes. I can hear you guys breathing a huge sigh of relief ... LOL!

Take One

On the 26th of June, I wrote a post about the passing of Michael Jackson, well, the whole world practically wrote a post about him. And I received a comment from someone called Anonymous. It went like this.

Anonymous said...

I like how you discolored the MJ pics so as to lessen his horrific self-bleaching of the past 20 years.

You wouldn't have left your kids alone with this freakazoid in a thousand years, and you know it.

Give me a break.

Now, I'm all for constructive criticism and I gladly accept when people are bluntly honest with me. Now I wouldn't trust my kids with anyone let alone Michael Jackson but I did that post to honour the man's huge and undisputed talent, not his personal life. His personal life no matter how weird it was is his business.

We all have our quirkiness and failings, lets not argue about that but unfortunately we're nowhere near being as talented as MJ was in his particular industry and naturally when one is popular, every bit of your failings is amplified a hundred fold.

While I don't even have an issue with this, Mister or Miss Anonymous, you could at least have the guts (a more vulgar word came to mind but this is a family blog anyway) to put your real name instead of hiding behind a screen of anonymity.

If you're going to be sarcastic, criticize or leave biting comments like that, then be a man or even a woman and have the decency to leave your real name. If not, don't even bother leaving a comment.

I take issue with this cos I'm a huge fan of Michael Jackson and no matter what his failings and weaknesses were, we cannot deny the impact he made on the music industry and what a legend the man was, music wise! And no, Anonymous, I didn't discolor the pix to hide his horrific self-bleaching as you put it, I did it to give it a feel of nostalgia.

Take Two

On the 28th of February, I wrote about the how teachers in this country were complaining of 'going mad' as they cannot handle teaching Mathematics and Science in English. It was a huge issue and many quarters were calling for the teaching of Math and Science to be abolished and reverted back to out national language.

But there were also many quarters who argued that by doing that we would be taking our education system ten steps back in the wrong direction and the future geniuses we produce wouldn't be able to compete out there internationally, especially in the fields of Science seeing as how all scientific jargon and terminology is in English to begin with. I was one of them.

The government created all kinds of committees to look into this problem, which to me was pretty obvious what the answer was and deliberated for months on end. Then a couple of days ago, they made a decision that they're going to revert the teachings of Math and Science back to our national language.

I was appalled. I'm not even going to bother with the stupid reasons they came up with to base their decisions on but all I can say is I fear for the fate of the future generations of this country which would include my children.

Why oh why can't we vote for our own Prime Minister like what the REAL democratic countries do instead of having him forced down our throats. Maybe then we could get some much more intelligent people running this country instead of 'geniuses' like these ... siggghhh ...
.

Take 1 - Boy... you are real pissed with the anon fella... and i support you fully! If you are gonna comment or say something stoopid.. have the decency to leave a name laa.. scardy cat! hahahhahaa

Take 2 - I think the education system will slide and slide... all the way down...

Samantha said...

First of all, I'm BACK!!! LOL

Take 1 - MJ rawks! Totally agree with you, no matter how messed up his personal life is, we can't deny that he's a genius in his industry. Plus recently released videos of him and his children kinda show a diff side of him

Take 2 - I am appalled. I seriously dunno wth is in their brain (maggots maybe?).

Bud! MJ was a wonderful entertainer and now we can see that he was an dedicated father too. Wish those anonymous people would stop judging the poor guy and let him rest in peace.

Just remember the good that he did...found out that he was in the Guiness Book for being the celebrity that gave the most donations or something. Plus the countles number of people who have used him as a role model or have looked to him as an inspiration to succeed in life.

Cheers Buddy and have a nice weekend!

Just to make you feel a tad more 'comforted', an anon commentor left a biting and insulting remark not only on someone else's blog where I put my comment in response to the English language dilema (hey, I am entitled to a differing opinion from another person on the street!)but left that same nasty remark on my blog! I thought that was really vicious!

Know what? Instead of deleting (which I don't believe in doing so...no matter how nasty)that comment or worst, getting even and stooping low, I responded with manners to that anon commentor. I guess like what you say, if you've got something constructive to say, do it respectfully (with your name instead of anonymous)and no name calling please. And most important of all, everyone has a right to dissent!

"I am entitled to my opinion just as anon is entitled to his or hers" summed up my response to that rude attacker.

Nick Phillips said...

Anny - I am, I really am. Yeah, why hide behind an anonymous wall. Scardy cat!

I fear for our future generation la Anny, really I do ...

Nick Phillips said...

Mei Teng - Everyone has the right to their opinions, I agree but at least be brave enough to put your real identity instead of hiding behind some anonymous wall.

Nick Phillips said...

Adrian - I have to agree buddy. For all his weaknesses, he had his good points. Let us not forget that.

The really sincere ones don't go boasting about how much they've donated to this charity or that but they just do it out of sincerity and ask for nothing else. I'll bet a lot of people didn't know that about MJ.

A great weekend to you too. Any more thoughts on our business venture idea? I've got a couple more ideas, will catch up with you over teh halia and run it through you :D

Oh and Seansy wants to meet up one day when he's free. I'll try and arrange for something when I see him somewhere next week :D

Nick Phillips said...

Samantha - Welcome back.

I have to agree, I think people (the unbelievers, that is) should cut the guy some slack. He was a genius in his field and he always will be no matter what went on in his private life.

Maggots would be a big improvement la Samantha ... LOL!

Ratu Syura said...

Hi Nick!! OMG! Haven't been here in agesss!! Thanks to my boredom I'm now heree and I miss reading your rants! Hehee.. Eh, that anonymous person is a nutjob! Anonymous, you're so lame and pathetic! Bodoh lah kau!

K, bye Nick!! :D

Terra Shield said...

Ok.. that anonymous comment was a bit uncalled for. We cannot forget his talent!

The World According To Me said...

Re MJ, do people forget he was cleared and proved innocent during a court of law? And his skin was apparently speckling so he took treatment to even it out? Anyway, who are we to comment on someones private life. It's his public life we knew, and no one can deny how talented he was and his talent should be remembered and honoured. Also, have a heart anonoymous, three children have lost their father, and a family have lost a son and a brother.

The Real Mother Hen said...

Those folks who are so critical about MJ and his personal life simply love to judge others, as if they are God. Give me a break!

Now your Take 2 is sad.

Nick Phillips said...

Syura - Hey, I thought some aliens kidnapped you ... LOL!

Thanks for the support. People should be brave enough to leave their real names if they're gonna be so critical of things.

Nick Phillips said...

Terra Shield - I thought it was too. Whatever he was, he was a music genius, that can't be ignored.

Nick Phillips said...

The World According To Me - Exactly, people forget that despite all the media glare, he was after all a loving father to his kids.

Nick Phillips said...

The Real Mother Hen - Unfortunately that's so true with loads of people. They think they're so righteous at times ... siggghhh ...

Take is very saddening for me ...

Emila Yusof said...

Take 1 - got nothing else to do and then go anon and make people pissed! crazy anon!

Take 2- haiya, i dunnolah what to say.

Rose said...

Take 1 - MJ is a genius. Dont you know genius is usually weird, nerdy, strange etc.... :) They cant be perfect. All human beings aren't. I still admire MJ for his talents although his personal life is not much to be admired of!

Take 2 - I am frustrated with those people. Sekejap ini, sekejap itu! Sigh! I thought my children will be studying Maths and Science in English when they going to school in few years time, but look like it is not going to happen....

chegu carol said...

i am no big fan of MJ but i gotta agree, i dont think anyone has made it close to dance and sing like MJ. probably not in many more years to come.

on take 2...i have vent out my dissatisfaction over at my blog. but to quote perry's...as teachers, we can rant and complaint whatever we want over this matter but in the end, we are still bound to 'saya yang menurut perintah'... :(

KaDusMama said...

Arghhhhhh!!!! Me and my kids are big fans of MJ. My daughter was crying when she saw MJ coffin during the memorial service and was asking why MJ was not there to sing!!! See..even 2 1/2 years old know how to appreciate a good singer and dancer.. :)

Monica said...

forget abt this anon Nick! No one can replace the great Michael Jackson, he is a legend!!

"If you're going to be sarcastic, criticize or leave biting comments like that, then be a man or even a woman and have the decency to leave your real name. If not, don't even bother leaving a comment."

Amen to that. I hate when people get all snippy like that and dont even have the guts to say who they are. Ugh!

Nick Phillips said...

Emila - Yeah, lucky I didn't put this in my bikin panas blog ... hehehe!

Take 2 is really depressing!

Nick Phillips said...

Rose - No doubt he is and I agree, geniuses are normally a little strange.

I have no issues with our national language, in fact I use it everyday during work but certain subjects should be taught in English for us to complete with the rest of the world.

Nick Phillips said...

Carol - I agree, no one is even going to come close to his dancing skills in a long long long time.

Yeah, you teachers are the ones who really have no say in the matter, ya? Sometimes life just ain't fair.

Nick Phillips said...

Kadusmama - Even my 10 year old boy knows who MJ is la ... hehehe ... That speaks a lot about MJ doesn't it :D

Nick Phillips said...

Monica - I've already forgotten about him/her but I just had to post about his/her silly comments ... hehehe ...

Nick Phillips said...

Meleah - Exactly, I advocate honest comments and if you're going to be sarcastic, at least leave a real name so I can defend my views to a real person rather than some anonymous id!

Mariuca said...

No new post here Nick? Dropping EC at 5.50 am he he.. ;)

Blur Ting said...

I was also surprised at the government's announcement to conduct math and science lessons in national language. I keep thinking what about those who wish to travel outside of Malaysia to pursue an education or work? There will be a disparity in the terminologies used.

Nick Phillips said...

Marzie - No la Marzie, I've been too busy with work la ... I'll post something soon :D

Nick Phillips said...

BT - Exactly, I'm still perplexed with the decision. But what can I do? As a citizen of this country and also a parent, I really have no say in what goes on in this country ... sad but true.

crazyseawolf said...

Nick, I don't accept anonymous comments anymore whoever he or she is. If someone wants to call me names or criticize me, identify himself or herself.

Nick Phillips said...

Cidao - Exactly, if you have the cheek to leave sarcastic comments, at least be brave about identifying yourself ...
