Music Monday - The Cask of Amontillado

After last week's Music Monday post where I had help in trying to figure out a particular song from my younger days where I used to listen to all kinds of weird groups and songs and right after my treadmill session, I decided to revisit my youth again by finding and playing all the songs I used to listen to back then.

And it has brought back such great memories of my time hanging out with my two best friends. Those were such carefree times with nary a worry. Life was much simpler back then and some of the songs I used to listen to where pretty bizarre and kinda dark.

My buddy Sean was the one who would come up and introduce all kinds of alternative groups or songs to me back then and surprisingly I would always end up liking it and the next thing you know, Sean and me will be listening to non-stop much to the chagrin of our other buddy, Adrian who kinda thought we were a little loopy, in fact he still think we're a little loopy till today ... LOL!

This week, I'm featuring a song by this group called The Alan Parson's Project. I'm sure most of you would have heard of their one fairly successful song titled 'Eye In The Sky'. It was giving quite a bit of airtime on the radio back in the eighties. But I'm not featuring that song today. I'm featuring one of their more darker songs instead.

'The Cask of Amontillado' is from their album released in 1976 entitled 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination'. The album's avant-garde soundscapes kept it from being a blockbuster, but the interesting lyrical and musical themes - retellings of horror stories and poetry by Edgar Allan Poe - attracted a small audience.

The title of the album, 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' is also taken from the same title of Poe's macabre tales of the same name. It was actually a toss up this week between this song or another equally strange song by this group but I decided to feature that for next weeks Music Monday and let you have a listen to this one instead. In fact I'll be posting the entire album here for Music Monday each week.

So without further ado, I present to you 'The Cask of Amontillado' by The Alan Parsons Project :D
