Long Sleeve Or Short Sleeve?

The weather has been scorching hot the past couple of weeks. And they say it will last throughout the month of March. Good god, that is crazy indeed! I don't even remember the weather being this hot a couple of years ago.

It's so hot that the moment I'm done with my shower, the sweat starts trickling down my back again. I just feel like sitting in the bathroom with the shower on all day long. I practically dread having to even step out of the house but unfortunately I do have appointments to go to and clients to see.

Even driving in my air conditioned car is not much help cos the sun is so blazingly hot by midday that my arms are getting burnt like crazy. I think by the time the rains come next month my arms will be a different shade of colour from the rest of me! But there's no way to avoid that, seeing as how I do HAVE to hold on to the steering while I drive.

I could always opt to use that sleeve like thing those aunties use when they drive but I'd look like a complete moron ... LOL! And don't even ask me to try using a long sleeved shirt cos I hate long sleeve shirts.

Besides I only own one pair of long sleeve shirt that is reserved just for formal occasions which wifey has named my 'baju kahwin' (wedding shirt) cos on the occasions that I even use it, she always look at me and say,

'Wah, you getting married ah, today?'

Besides she doesn't like me using that long sleeved shirt either cos she says it's sooooo old fashioned. And she's absolutely right cos I can't even remember how old that shirt is. Like I said I don't fancy long sleeved shirts hence not bothering to get new ones. In fact, I think my best buddy gave me that shirt years ago.

I'm the kind of guy who only uses short sleeve shirts or even t-shirts. I am not at all comfortable having to dress up. Just give me a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and I'll be more than happy. Back when I used to work full time, I would dread it when I have to do some major presentation or pitch for an account cos then I would have to make myself presentable and actually have to dress up proper with long sleeves, slacks and a necktie even! Shudder!

That's another thing I really hate having to put on, which is a necktie. I can't stand having to wear a necktie all day long. Most of the time, I would remove it and roll up my sleeves the moment the meeting, presentation or pitch was over. If I could change into my jeans and t-shirt right there and then, I would.

A colleague of mine once asked me why I detest wearing a long sleeve shirt, slacks and necktie. Well, first of all it's damn bloody uncomfortable and hot having your arms covered up all day and the bloody necktie practically chokes you breathless!

'Then roll up your sleeves and loosen your tie,' he would say.

Now if I were  to do that, I might as well wear short sleeves and not use a tie, right? I mean why wear a long sleeve shirt and then roll it up, isn't that what short sleeve shirts are for? And if you're going to loosen your tie, you might as well not use it in the first place.

Since I do have to meet clients quite a bit, I compromise in my dressing. Most of the time I'll just wear a pair of jeans and a short sleeve shirt which is at least presentable cos I know there are people who take your appearance and what you wear quite seriously. I've been in an embarrassing situation before with the way I was dressed.

There was this time when I had to see a client for the first time (an executive director) to present something. Unfortunately that day, I was dressed in t-shirt and jeans and when I arrived there, his secretary looked at me and thought I was a dispatch boy sending documents over! Then when I was finally admitted in to see the client, he looked at me and said,

'Oh, you're Nick ah? I thought you were some dispatch boy!'

What? Only dispatch riders wear jeans and T-shirts, ah? Even though I still wasn't going to compromise on my dressing or having to dress to please other people, from that day on I decided that at least a pair of short sleeve shirt to go along with my jeans would be a little more presentable and people won't mistake me for the delivery or dispatch boy, well unless of course dispatch boys decided to start using short sleeve shirts, that is ... LOL!

But all that said and done, I still don't compromise that much on the way I dress. I'm still a jeans and t-shirt kinda guy and if people don't like the way I dress, well that's too bad for them. I don't dress to please people or even try to be fashion conscious with some of the latest fashions looking absolutely clown like. I dress to feel comfortable. And if wearing just a towel would make me feel comfortable, then trust me, I would ... LOL!

It's a good thing I work from home these days cos I get to just wear shorts and t-shirt all day long, well unless I have to go out that is.
