To Be Young Again ...

You know you're getting really old when you wake up in the morning and have this brilliant bit of inspiration for a post but a couple of hours later, when you sit and actually want to post that bit of brilliant inspiration you forget what the heck it was all about! And that was exactly what happened to me today.

As usual on Saturdays I wake up late, if you consider 9.00am late, that is. And as usual upon waking up, I'll laze in bed either disturbing wifey or chit chatting with her before we both wake up proper. And during our early Saturday morning laze in bed session I had this brilliant bit of inspiration for a post and told wifey that the moment we come back from breakfast and grocery shopping later, I'm going to post it.

And we so head out for breakfast, then to Tesco and come home and after putting away all the groceries, I come upstairs, switch on the PC and totally cannot remember what it was that I wanted to post! Really, I totally couldn't and still can't recall what it was. I sit here for a very long time trying to think back and for the life of me nothing comes to mind. And it was just only this morning, which was a few hours ago that I knew what it was.

And that my friends is the first signs that I'm getting really old. I can't be old, I'm only 41, that's the prime of my life and here I am forgetting things already. Gee, if this keeps up, soon I'll probably forget my own name or worse wifey's name ... Imagine, she'll probably have to use a name tag with the words 'wifey' at home ... LOL! And it was such a great inspiration for a post too ... siggghhh ... maybe it'll come back to me tomorrow. I'd better keep a pen and paper next to me so I can at least write it down if it does come to mind again.

But seriously, I am getting old. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm not the wee young active lad I was just a few years ago. The bones ache more these days after any strenuous activities and it takes a lot longer to heal. The eyesight is also deteriorating and I'm probably going to need reading glasses pretty soon. I never had problems with reading fine print before but lately it's getting harder and harder to read those small prints you find on lots of things.

Just a couple of days ago, I bought this packet of mints and was trying to read the contents and you should have seen how comical I was trying to get the words in focus. I never had problems reading things like that before. Why the heck do they print them so small anyway? This is going to make looking at all those colour separation films at work all that much harder if I don't go and get myself a pair of spectacles soon.

You never really think growing old would happen to you. You always think you'll still be able to do the things you've always done and one day when you go for your evening run (which I've been skipping for quite a long time now) and realize that it takes all that much more effort just to complete your usual route or you realize that it takes so much more effort to stay up later at nights. It's times like these when you realize that no matter how much you try to stay in shape, how much you try to be young, age tends to sneak up quietly on you.

I mean, take me for instance. In my mind, I haven't changed a bit since I turned 21. In my mind I believe I can still do the things I used to do in my twenties or even thirties. But then my mind and my body don't necessarily think the same way. My mind will tell me, 'hey, go out there and party and all that' but then then next day when the aches set in, my body is probably going to say, 'you deserve the aches, you stupid old man!' ... siggghhh ... Growing old sucks!

But that doesn't necessarily mean I'm going to let my body win. Though these days I may have an ache or two or three extra or maybe it takes double the effort to do the things I used to do or maybe I have twenty or thirty more white hairs than I used to, it really doesn't matter cos as far as I am concerned, I'm still a young man :D As they say, it's all in the mind and age is just a number. You're as young as you want to be and right now, though my body feels like it's 52 years old at times, my mind is still a fresh 19 years old ... LOL!

Now if only I could remember just what it was that I wanted to post this morning ....

  13. Unlike all these other young people above me, and believe me being in your 20's is young, I am an ancient 48 years of age. I had to give in and get glasses a few years back and now I can't see a thing without them. I'm going to the hairdressers today and no doubt she will tell me how many per cent my hair is grey now (last time it was 60%). Yes it sucks being old but better old and alive than old and the alternative :)

PS Didn't you tell wifey what you wanted to post about that morning? You could have asked her or couldn't she remember either?

  14. Gypsy - I fall in the ancient category too. Well, judging by the way my eyesight is deteriorating, I'm going to need a pair sooner or later ... siggghhh ...

And no, wifey forgot what it was too ... LOL!

  18. Sigh...me too la getting old!!! Twice last week, I could've sworn I brought in something that we bought from the car into our condo, but I couldn't find it anywhere later. And both times, both things were still in da car even though I distinctly remembered bringing them in! Sigh!!! :(
