Heartless

Here's a story I read on the Star (the local newspaper) today that made me sick to the very pit of the stomach. I cannot believe that there are people like these existing in this world.
A 57-year-old man, who had just undergone heart surgery, thought he could recuperate at home but was in for a shock when his son told him not to return home.

Harian Metro (another local newspaper) reported that Abdul Rahman Talib was abandoned by the roadside in Kangar with just a bag of clothes by his 30-year-old son after his daughter-in-law refused to let him back into the house.

'I asked my son to drive me to town although I did not know where I could go. Instead, he left me in front of a school.'

'I cried as I stepped out from his car. I did not expect him to treat me like this after I’ve brought him up lovingly all these years,' he said, adding that he felt lost wandering around before finally settling down for the night at a bus stop.

Abdul Rahman said the following day, his son had come to look for him but the old man’s joy was short-lived when he realised that the son was only dropping off his bicycle.

He said he met an acquaintance near the school two days later and was invited to spend the night at his house.

It is understood that the Social Welfare Department had since sent Abdul Rahman to the Batu Bertangkap Welfare Home in Beseri.
I suppose there could be another story behind this cos we all know old people can be very annoying at times but to actually dump ones own parent by the roadside and tell him not to come home borders on heartless to me.

The least he could do was leave him in an old folks home or something and not by the roadside. Maybe he thought this might be the perfect opportunity for him to save on buying all those anti wrinkle serums for his dad! I wonder how this guys sleeps at night.

  1. I've read this through friend's fb notes. I think it's cruel. The dad just went through heart surgery for gawd sake! =_= I blame the queen control wife *sigh.

  2. A cruel, heartless man, how can he dump his own father like that!
Even if he (and his wife) has issues with the ageing father, he shouldn't have done that. I hope authoritiesa will take action. Otherwise, irresponsible children will take the easy way out and dump their parents when they feel the parents are a burden to them. :(

  3. That dude's a retard. Anyway, for a good laugh, see the antics of a Malay Youth Leader defend his stance against the "Allah" issue on AlJazeera.

  8. Lina - Yes, I think whatever issues could be sorted out, at the very least send the poor man to an old folks home if you don't wanna look after him.

  13. Carol - It's very sad to know there are people like these in this world.

Same here, I'll try my best to fend for myself when I'm old and grey and not trouble the kids at all if possible.

  20. I cannot fathom how anyone could just leave their parents just like that... regardless if there is another side of the story to it. It's just so cold and inhumane.

  21. Perky - Yeah, me too. That was why I was so incensed by the article.
