Queen Control

I was listening to the radio this morning and there was this topic going on, something about a woman's place should be at home and a man shouldn't become a househusband or something along those lines. I can't really remember already.

I caught bits and pieces of it with concerns that a man would loose this, urrmmm what was it they said, status or something along those lines if he helps out with housework or even stayed home and looked after the kids. It was like something to be looked down upon or so it went.

Now, this question is for all you men out there? Do you really think a woman's place is at home? You know, stay home and clean the place, cook, do the washing and all that stuff? Do you think it would make you much less of a man and so much less macho if you got involved in helping out at home? Or worse yet, would people brand you as 'queen controlled' (oh, the shame!) if they found out you were helping out with stuff at home?

Well, if you do, then you're more of a neanderthal than you think! But the horrors of it all is that there are still loads of men out there who believe a woman's place is at home in the kitchen. They shouldn't be out working and if they are, they shouldn't be having a higher paying job than the man. Sadly I personally know a few men with such thinking.

I suppose men like that would probably laugh at me cos I help out with the household work at home all the time. I help out with things such as sweeping the house, mopping the floor, washing the dishes, folding the clothes and even washing the clothes at times (though all that entails is just dumping the basketful of laundry into the washing machine ... LOL!) and I don't feel less of a man at all.

We don't have a maid, you know la us poor people where can afford maids one so wifey and me do all household chores ourselves and I have no qualms helping her out with it. I can't help her out all day since I do work full time but when I'm home, I'm always willing to help her with the chores. In fact, if she told me she wants me to stay home and be a househusband while she goes out to work, I would have no qualms about that either :D

I known some people who would balk at the thought of ever having to be a househusband. To them, having to do house work and things that are traditionally done by a woman makes them seeming low down in the status symbol. I mean, they've got a point there cos how are they going to boast to their friends on one of their drinking sessions that they're the man of the house if they have to fold the clothes, wash the dishes or even sweep the floor.

So, what do you think? You think woman should just stay home and take care of the kids, cook and clean the house?

  1. I always think that a home's household responsibilities should be shared amongst the family and that inclused husband, wife, children.

In this day and age, can a lot of people afford to insist on their wives to stay at home? ANd if their wives are working, do the husbands really think it's fair for the wives to shoulder all the household responsibilty?

  3. ooo... "those men" are probably stuck in them stone age... where they carry a club and club their women on the head and drag them back to the cave to cook for them..

  4. I think that's ancient thinking, to assume a wife should stay at home and clean, cook, etc. Nowadays, women are becoming more and more independent in managing their career and household. No reason why the men should feel inferior, just by helping out with household chores.

I know a man who used to harp at his wife for not keeping the house clean because she was working. The best part is working gave her a sense of accomplishment but eventually he made her give up her job to take care of the house and kids. I felt sorry for her.

Good thing you help out with household chores! :D

Here we go again. More of the endless male bashing and man-hating. Prejudice against men is the only bias you can express publicly.

Uhh, yes there are men who would never want to be househusbands, just like there are women who would never want to be housewives. Will you also write a post criticizing women who don't want to be housewives? Yeah, right. I note that you go out to work while your wife stays at home. Should you be included in your own condemnation of men who want to work while they want their wives to stay at home? What hypocrisy!

  8. Lina - I totally agree. Household responsibilities should be always be shared. But there are some men who just balk at the thought of picking up a broom even!

  10. Sriyany -I just put it down to being plain lazy, that's all. They just wanna come home and have everything done for them. I wonder why they got married in the first place.

    I pity that woman.

  13. P.R. Ley - LOL! I'll bet you're exactly one of those people I just wrote about.

And if you do understand simple English, you would note that I never in anyway said I forced my wife to stay home while I went to work. Besides, didn't you ever hear of working from home? What planet are you from?

And do be man (or woman) by at least leaving a link so I can visit you and return the favour, if not, go bug somebody else's blog and stay out of mine. I could do with less morons like you around!

  14. As a woman, I actually PREFER to be a stay-at-home mom cooking and cleaning because I genuinely enjoy those things. But if a woman wants to work, all the more power to her! And no man has the right to tell a woman 'her place'. It's not 1950 anymore!

  15. Aiya, does it matter who stays home and who goes to work? It's your family all the same ... your wife whom you had promised to pluck the moon for, your kids your own flesh and blood that needs feeding and nurturing the right values. Some men are just plain chauvinistic!

My lo kong longs to be a house-husband and I prefer the corporate life ... but it turned out opposite.

  16. YOU are one of the people you wrote about. You know, those horrible monsters who go out to work while their wives stay home? Yeah, that's you.
Working from home? I wonder why she is not the one going out to work, while you "work from home"? I guess you're one of "those people." Look up the word, hypocrisy.

  18. Wenny - To some men, it does matter. I think it's plain selfish.
