Threads And Needles

A few posts ago, I mentioned that I got myself a Nike+ Sportband. It's a nice little thingamajig that lets me keep track of my run distance, my pace, how fast I run and how many calories I burn every session. The entire package comes with a nice wristband with a removable receiver and a sensing chip that is to be placed in the soles of Nike+ shoes.

Now, that's where the problems starts for me. While I own three pairs of running shoes, none of them happens to be a Nike. Besides, to be real honest, I'm not a fan of Nike shoes. So that leaves me a problem with finding a way to attach this sensor to my shoes and it has to be removable as well so that I can use it in any of my three shoes.

Of course, they do have accessories that I could buy but not in this country and they cost quite a bit for a tiny little pouch just to attach to my shoelaces. So, just before I started looking for places to buy vitamins, I surfed the web looking for home made Nike+ sensor attachments.

There were loads of ideas, some good, some not so good, some downright ridiculous but there was one that made me go,

'Hey, I can do that!'

But what that actually meant was,

'Hey, wifey can do that for me!' ... LOL!

So, when I came back from work, I immediately showed wifey the illustration of how to sew this particular shoe pouch for me. She looked at me, gave me this, 'You think I got nothing better to do look' and told me she would do it later.

Now, I'm the kind of person that is very impatient when it comes to something I want. If I want it, I want it right away. After trying every little trick I knew (unfortunately, she also knew my tricks quite well) trying to persuade wifey to get it sewn for me right away failed, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I came to a conclusion that I'm going to sew the pouch myself! That elicited a round of side splitting laughter from wifey ... hrrruummppphhh! The cheek of that woman thinking I can't sew ... LOL! I was going to prove her wrong.

So, to cut a long story short and after a few hundred prickling of my fingers with that blasted tiny needle, I must say I'm proud of my little sewing adventure :D It does look pretty good and works as I want it to work. And it didn't cost me tons of money too, though I did lose the sleeve of one of my old shirts to provide a base for my material and nicked some Velcro strips from my office ... shhhhhh, no telling :D

What do you think of my masterpiece below? Got hope to become a seamstress one day, ah? LOL! Disregard the horrible stitching work cos my eyes aren't as good as they used to be and trying to thread a needle at night is like finding a million bucks under my pillow!

The sensor and its pouch ... ignore the horrible stitching

The pouch between the laces ...

Voila ... the pouch attached and ready to go :D
